Darn, and I was up there all weekend too and FYI I use Bauer Vapors. The thing that was really annoying in Toledo was the Pittsburgh teams there with their stupid Penguin championship shirts.

Fastest time I have seen at a college camp with slappers was 2.74. They use 2.8 as the cut off. I believe Whatley was 2.74

I'm curious about the whole time issue,Do most coaches time the girls as they stand in the batters box in a hit ready position and as they swing they start the clock or do they line them up at starting location and let them get into a sprint stance then say go?I have seen it both ways but we did have a tryout where the girls broke a laser start as they come out of the box in there hitting stance and broke another as they pass first, but again who's to say the laser is in the correct position, but i guess if your going for the best time and are consistent on your method it doesn't matter until you are starting to get the resume ready for collage. What do most tryouts have and what method do you like?

Most college camps I have been to is lining up at Home Plate to keep it uniform, like Team USA uses To many variables in doing the batters box.

On the World Cup coverage I heard Michelle Smith say that Caitlin Lowe ran a 2.6.

Come on SBFamily your ruining for the 12yr old's above that can get it done in less time than Whatley!!! If you are pulling off 2.25's at 12 for a total of 60' which is 20yards, does that mean they can run 11.25 100 yard dashes;&, man that is flying, almost world record pace for women. Had to have a little bit of fun with this one, but thanks for pointing out realistic times SB!!!:lmao:

According to her bio from the 2008 Olympics, Natasha Watley's home to first time is 2.5 seconds.

My 12yr DD Who is 5'9 can do it between 9.5-10.2 on a regular bases from Home to Home

I will say, no way in heck that is even phyically possible. That might be the funniest thing I have read on this board. Are you really serious?

Times are different when swing to contact and cold sprint. Just enough to tip the scales. First foot planted is best way to time the start. 2.7 60' was the best we ever had...... 2.5 is awesome, a coaches dream player speed.

fastpitchersmom,

i coach a 14u team. as far as fast goes at that age, i would say home to first in under 3 seconds. home to home in 12 to 12.5 seconds.

i know the speed is lots faster at each age level you go up, so 2 tenths of a second could be a good number to factor at the different ages.

jim mcdaniel
14u lady charmers

Most of Team USA around 3 seconds (Not the Big Power girls) Under 3 Happens but Most quick HS girls around 3.1 to 3.4
. Been timing girls a long Time last 4 yrs... 12 U and 14U . My fastest around 3.01 Most of team 3.4 to 3.8 .

most of the 10's run at 3.4-3.8. A couple are in the low 3.2's and another just a hair quicker. That's what I've seen during our tryouts.

I seem to recall from a post a year or two back that the maximum home to first time to qualify for Team USA was 2.9 seconds. Now tell me, could Bustos or Nuveman really run that fast?
