The only time the third base coach should be making a decision for a runner is when the runner can't see the ball and can't be expected to know whether she can make the next base. Those times include a runner on her way to second with a ball in right field and a runner on her way to third on most balls in the outfield. Even in those cases the runner should pretty much know on her own whether she can make third or home.

That is the only time I ever see our 3rd base coach direct the girls.

Sometimes in the hype of a close game, the girls will try for that extra base. If they dont watch the coach at all, everyones screaming very loud. 9 out of 10 get thrown out.

Your right, I was pretty happy how our team ran the bases for the most part this summer. We want them thinking on their feet and taking that extra base any time a ball gets away or if they think they can make it. I can't tell you how many times we had 2 and 3 and no outs and sent the runners on contact and scored, because the other team never expected us to go. We spend a pretty decent amount working on it, and also working on our running form, and proper paths to the next base.
