Pitching and Pitchers Discussion Screaming(grunting) pitchers

Excellent post.

It's difficult for younger kids to understand how to be relaxed, but at the same time have explosive intensity. That's part of becoming an effective pitcher, along with hitting spots, learning spins, reading batters - a LOT of stuff!! IMO, that's why many kids give up pitching after a while.

As young pitchers mature, they begin to understand how to put more energy into their pitching without "muscling it", or tensing up. Tense muscles are slow muscles - hence the "inhale - exhale" that is taught to most pitchers just after bringing the hands together.

A young girl mindlessly yelling while pitching is probably missing the point, and just hasn't grasped the principle of controlled breathing - or forceful exhaling.

Sammy, I love your posts and am almost always in complete agreement with them. I'm fairly new to OFC so I don't know your backgound. Are you a pitching coach or have a daughter who pitches? If so, what team, age group, etc? PM if you would like.

If the pitcher is doing it to distract the batters, any good batter only watches where the pitch is released.

Some pitchers are throwing heat and the grunt is coming from pushing hard and exceleration of the pitch.

I've taken the time to reads all that has been posted so far and have read both Pro's and Con's as to the Screaming and Grunting topic. Are we really sure that all the blame should be placed on the Pitcher's shoulders; I hear an awful lot of the same noise at times coming from the bleachers, and it is also distracting.:lmao::lmao:

FASTPITCH! Anything else, And you're playing to SLOW!

sdm, I have heard a lot of hitters grunt--usually those hitting for power. They just don't make a scene or try to be loud.

I'm a fan of grunting. Pretty sure my three kids would never have been born if my wives Dr. told her NO GRUNTING on exhale as she pushed with every muscle in her body.

GRUNTING = POWER~! Screaming = Annoyance~!
