We have attended several showcase events over the past year and I don't know what to say about this one. My daughter and I left in disgust and feeling cheated. Even parents that were new to a showcase event were upset about how it was ran. The pitchers and catchers really didn't get to do much at all. The pitchers got to throw 6-7 pitches (some of them after waiting in line 45 minutes or more to do so) and the catchers got to throw to to 1st, 2nd and 3rd then rotate out. Then hit 5 soft toss balls into a net, then they were dismissed. Really? At the evening games I only spotted one of the College coaches from the morning session. Total disappointment.

The evening games didn't have enough players so they were pulling anyone that had a uniform onto the field. My younger DD volunteered even though she was scheduled to play at 8. No dice and they even had non-showcase girls pitching while my older DD was playing left field?! Didn't get it, still don't get it...

They must have been at Findlay.

We just had good times to be seen.... all the diamonds at the Marathon diamonds were good draws Saturday afternoon.

I know there may be a slight difference in talent, but never would have thought a MVX at any age or level would play "B." Sorry if you take that the wrong way, but "B" is for Rec/All-Star teams and will not push a team, as indicated by going 6-0.

Agreed.

MVX-Lowry was supposed to be in the "A" division. We are signed up as "A". Can not tell you where the communication failed this weekend, but we played who was in front of us. This was our lone USSSA event this year. We are playing mainly ASA.

I will say some of these "B" teams deserve a little better than the Rec/All-Star label.

I was just putting the post out there that the event was well organized overall and that we actually got to play our games. Didnt mean to create any un-necessary controversy for the teams that we played. We didnt pick 'em we just played.

Congrats to the Cyclones for a nice weekend. I watched you play and you look tough. Wish we would have been in your bracket like we were supposed to be. Hopefully we will get a chance somewhere down the line later this summer to play.

I heard the same from our parents who attended the showcase. The game that was played was pretty good. We were approached by several recruiters to provide profiles of different players, went through around 35 profile sheets between the showcase game and individual requests. I am not sure how many were there, but heard they were hanging out in the crows nest. :lmao:

We were in 14B and did not play our last two games due to unplayable fields at CYO. So I'm not sure how they can determine a "winner".

we were told that you would take your total points & divide by the # of games played... Also rules said minimum of 4 games for a complete tourny.

2 pts for win
1 pt for tie
0 for loss
add those up & divide by 5 & that'll give you your total points. Other teams do the same & divide by 7.

Either way with the XPress team, those girls had to play hard, and probably against better teams than the "B" lable implies.



I know I just want my DD's team to play Hitters' team! With all the college coaches watching his team play maybe my DD can make a few plays against his team, ....or hit one over the fence....

The MVX has always been a very prestigious Org. One of the Top in the state as far as Im concerned, The 4 or 5 years we spent with the Xpress we always were thrilled at the top venues we played week in and week out.
If things havent changed im pretty sure the people that Run the Xpress arnt happy at all about one of their 16,s being in a USSSA B tournament. Wins aside I,ll bet you wont see that happen again. Their connections to colleges in the mid west are to strong as far as recruiting to have it happen again any time soon.

Ok....given our record, we weren't in contention BUT....how does a team finish with a .500 record and have 22 teams above them and only 6 teams below them? I need a statistician to help me with that one!!

Nothing has changed at MVX in regard to what the MVX is trying to do for their players.

As I posted before. This was a oversight at the tournament level. We are registered as "A". Should we have gone home and not played? That wouldn't have done anybody any good.

Although not the case on this one, we have had some challenges with our schedule trying to get in a couple high profile events that we wanted, but were bumped out because the tournaments didn't want two MVX of the same age group. All our players have plenty of travel experience, but we are a first year MVX team. We also are the younger one so we have had to adapt our schedule a bit.
