As a parent on the Miami Valley Express - Lowry team, I was surprised to be in the "B" as well. Coach said he signed us up for the "A". Don't know what happened.

That's a little harsh, don't you think? Lol
:)

I'm wondering if some of the parents, coaches and TD of this tournament might object to this being described as a rec tournament. I know we did not play any rec teams. I wonder if the college coaches that watched my DD knew they were at a rec tourney??

I only ask because of the reference Knights had:

"Sorry if you take that the wrong way, but "B" is for Rec/All-Star teams and will not push a team, as indicated by going 6-0. "

Wasnt implying anything...........

How does a team determine if it is an "a" team or "b" team? Is there a certain guideline that teams follow or is it based upon the opinion/expectations of the coach? I only ask because you see a lot of teams designating themselves as such or by calling themselves "gold" or "black" or ..........

I assume (and we all know what happens when we do that!) it is based on how they register in ASA, USSSA, etc....as far as which they SHOULD play in tournaments. How it is determined to register as an "A" team or a "B" team in the first place I guess would be from the coach's knowledge and expections of his team.

We attended the Toledo Tune-Up for many years (not this one) and we had the same thing happen to us two years ago in 14U. We clearly signed up for the 14U "A" division and we were somehow placed in the "B" division. Last year we did play in the "A" division and while the overall level of play was a little better I would by no means refer to the "B" division as Rec level.

What I have seen happen over the years in USSSA is that if a team decides to attend a USSSA World Series and they want to enter in the "B" division then they cannot play in the "A" division and still enter the "B" world series. While we are not playing any USSSA events this year I can say that in years past I did not see much difference (overall) between the "A" and the "B" divisions. The top 2 or 3 teams are the same and 70% of the teams can be thrown into a hat and when you pull them out they would look the same. Then there are the teams who are working hard to get better. Again by no means would I ever refer to the Toledo Tune-Up "B" division as a Rec level. Just my humble opinion.

so when you register with USSSA or ASA you determine if your an a or b team?

 So this was a rec tourney?

Hitter,

I can guess only one of two things are happening here...

1. You are ignorant of the tournament and the teams that played in it...or...

2. You are trying to slam a team that did well in this tournament and in the process of trying to "subtly" slam a team you have a problem with, you have insulted every team that played in this tournament.

Hmmm... good luck with that one... it seems to be working well for you ;)
