Shirt or trophy

When they get older 13-14 and slow down their growing, the shirts they get will fit them for a long time, then the sleeves disappear, as do the sides and they become practice shirts.

Almost all of our girls are doing this.

I THINK the players like the hardware better. But I have to say (put my 2 cents in) and this pertains to ALL post. "posters" refer to "me" or "mine" (like this one). How the heck do you know?? are you wearing the shirt or is the trophie on your dresser. For some reason the thing I have noticed latey is that there doesn't seem to be enough actual "players" on here. Its the Moms, Dads, Uncles, Aunts and coaches chiming in on how the actual "players" think or feel. Would love to here from them more...beside's, the shirts are probably to small for us to wear :).
My 12 yr old DD prefers shirts

Polled my 12U girls...all said SHIRTS. But would never wear a runner up shirt, just champion shirt or even a shirt from the event that didn't say 2nd place, just a tournament shirt.

My daughters team gave the team trophy to the MVP! We took a picture of them with it and posted it on our Facebook page.
This was done with my DD's basketball team 5 tournaments 5 different MVP's the last tounament the girls voted to give the last trophy to the only starter that didnt get one. Took the value out of the MVP by being fair or sympethetic...anyway browsfan pretty much nailed it for age group/awards. The rings sound good for 12u and up instead of trophies OR maybe for the younger ones a colored bracelet that has the name of the tournament, the year and the age group winner?

What about the older girls? 16u/18u? What are they hoping to take home from the championship game?

A car entrusted to them by their parents. Seriousy, I don't think our players care what they get, though I'm guessing as between trophies and t-shirts they would opt for the t-shirts.

Just had a grad party for my DD. Got all the trophies out one more time for everyone to see. Then she said, find a box and put these in the basement. They may never see the light of day again.

But, her grandmother took her T-shirts and tournament team jerseys from the past 10 years and made an awesome quilt! She would have never seen these again either, but will now be taking the quilt with her to college this fall.

How about something the parents could use? Maybe a certificate to Buffalo Wings. A six pack of Sam Adams. ha
The kids do owe all their success to us.

The Stingray Tournament last year was hands down the best trophy/award I've ever seen....Bronzed Glove with Pink Softball in the glove. My DD will never forget that one, really special for so many reasons. That is the gold standard in my opinion.

Generally the players like to receive something as a reward for their efforts. Our team just received T-shirts for our championship win over the weekend. The satisfaction of the victory and the memories are really what they take home.

Saw something new this weekend. At ASA States they gave the 10u champions and runner-ups Medals and stuffed animals (Tigers and Cheetahs). I was a little skeptical about the stuffed animals.

It's kind of funny how our family dynamics are. My older girl likes pop music and when my wife and I drive separate she will ride with my wife. My youngest would rather ride with me in the jeep and listen to AC/DC. So we're making the two hour drive home from Cincy last night and seeing my worn out baby girl asleep in the passenger seat hugging her championship stuffed tiger (with Bon Scott belting out tunes) was absolutely priceless.

I say T shirts for older age groups...........coaches too! If it weren't for tourney shirts and team shirts I wouldn't have anything to wear! LOL

You know my wife commented about Ashe wearing just shorts and tourney t's yesterday and she does not wear any other clothes. My response was "What is the problem with that?" I would do the same if I could.

I call it school shopping in the summer! That's all my daughter wears to school is tournament t-shirts and her team hoodies maybe once in a while throw an Aero shirt in there every now and then... :)
