Shirt or trophy

Lester, I just wanted to say... as I know you won the Eastern Regionals this past summer... but you might want to check since you WON a berth to the ASA/USA Nationals from there for 2012

You might want to check and see if you are even allowed to play in an Eastern Regional Qualifier. ASA rules on that might throw you into a pickle.

Remember what the 16u teams that won a ASA/USA berth prior to the state tournament last year were not allowed to play in ASA/USA qualifying events... which included the 16u State Tournament.

You might want to call Warren Jones and check that.

Just some heads up for you and your team. Be nothing worse than you having to give up that berth that your girls fought so hard to win over a technicality.

You do know I wish you the best all season.. and I dang well hope you bring home a National Title one day in the future. As well as any Ohio team !!!!

Talked to Warren... you are correct. If we play in ASA States or other ASA/USA qualifying events... we forfeit our ASA/USA berth. Thanks. If you want to discuss more, PM me... that way I'm not on the hi-jack circuit any more:cap:.

I prefer the trophies or the medals over the shirts...shirts are nice and they get worn a ton..but they fade over time and are outgrown and, generally, lost to time. The medals and trophies may get pact away but they don't get 'outgrown'. just my opinion.

I truly don't care which is awarded but I think they should be awarded AT the tournament. It does little good to get the award in the middle of basketball season. Order enough shirts and be done with it right then and there not 4 months later.

Could teams then be accused of "hoodie hunting"? :lmao:

Oh my goodness, this is funny!! :lmao::lmao::lmao:

I asked my dd, she said trophy over tee, medal over trophy, and championship ring would be cool but she probably wouldn't wear it! ;&

I agree t-shirts a good for awhile, but they out grow them, wear them out and evetually they become carwash rags. Where trophies eventually end up in a box for awhile, one day when my DD gets her own place with room like her mom they will come out. The wife has 75+ trophies, plaques and medals and they are all on display, but the uniforms and t-shirts we have no room or way to display them and thats just the ones that have survived.

Some people take the T-shirts and save them and then make a quilt with them.

Nothing like hardware. Shirts are normally bought by mom or dad.

Honestly, who the heck cares! We don't get into a tourney for what is offered or return b/c the prize was that great. It's about the competition and the win/loss column. We don't even know what the prizes are before entering the competition. The trophies are soon going to be in a box, the t-shirts soon out grown, I would reccomend making a big deal out of the championship games themselves. Announce the players names as they come up to bat, make them feel "big league". It's more about the feeling than the trophy. Make them feel like "rock stars".

Daughter says "Hoodie or tshirt. If I didn't have all these tshirts mom, I would have to wear regular girl clothes to school-yuck."

Previously qualified teams can play in the open National Qualifiers (e.g. your region's NQ is June 8-10) because it is allowed by ASA Code.

Article 513 National Qualifier Tournaments

M. Previously Qualified. Junior Olympic Teams which have previously qualified for a National Championship Final may compete in other National Qualifiers. If a previously qualified team wins another berth from a National Qualifier, the highest finishing team without a berth will qualify.

thanks! I see the code clearly spells it out. Warren didn't hesitate on his reply to my question so I'll have to send him an email with this verbiage.

Lester.. Ohio adapts to it's own rule on this. This is why some 16u teams last year who already qualified for USA/ASA... could not even play in the OHIO State Tournament. Sad as it may be... it is Ohio's own version of a national rule.

My 2 cents, it seems the girls are proud to wear their t shirts for about a week! The trophy thing is old news, especially if you have a bunch already, if not, then the trophy thing is great. Time to think outside the box on awards. Team gift card to something enjoyable for the girls, throw a party somewhere local for their team, I don't know, just something different than the standard award. I agree you don't go to a tournament for the awards, but that could change if the award was good enough. Bats, batting gloves, under armour clothes, maybe we should talk to the daughters to see what would be good, other than the usual awards. I love seeing the girls eyes light up after they find out what the award is, sometimes I think we try and make it all about making money, I love seeing the girls walk away with huge smiles and satisfaction. It makes all that hard work a little more worth it!

The problem with OHSAA rules... you can based value on the final placement of team in a tournament. Gift cards would fall under that rule.

I like hoodies personally. If it was a large tournament though, a "gift basket" type of thing would be nice as well.

I didn't really understand what you were saying. You couldn't give gift cards because of OHSAA? I don't know all those rules, help me out a little here. How does some tournaments give your entry fee back if you win? Same type of thing or no? I like hoodies also , I think it is kind of difficult to get correct sizes all the time, and really do not like waiting for an order, or to get your award at a later time. I think the girls really look forward to receiving their award right after the game.

My dd still wears all her t-shirts. After a few months they end up with no sleeves and she wears them at practice...but she still has all of them. ;&
