Shirt or trophy

Anything but trophies. They just go in boxes now that we ran out of room. At least you don't have to dust them in boxes. Love the hoody idea. No more T - shirts, since you get one at each camp/clinic/or tourney. As they get older and go to college camps, you end up with many t shirts.

If you're going to do tee shirts, don't just use the same tournament shirt that you started selling on Friday, and put "champions" on the bottom. Seen it done and it's cheesy and the kids feel cheated, especially if they already bought a tourney shirt. Make it totally different!

This one strikes home with me because this is exactly what we have been doing, but we also advertise as such before hand.

At our tournaments we have been giving all the champs and finalist shirts that are screened with Champions or Finalist (for up to 16 players and coaches on each team). These shirts are the standard white or gray $15 tournament shirt. The difference is that the winning team in each age group is also offered a PAID berth ($400-$425) to ASA Eastern Nationals or a team trophy and Tie-Dyed T-shirts for both teams ($22 ea for up to 16 players and coaches per team). Do the math, do you want cheap $7-$10 trophies or medals or that cheesy $15 or $22 T-shirt. And don't forget the PAID berth or the $100 team trophy.

He must have not had a sponsor to give it to? Giving those trophies to the team sponsors encourages them to keep sponsoring the team next year. Restaurant sponsors especially like them.

thats what we do... too many to keep in the storage area in the basement... and no more wall space. Anyone want to buy some :lmao:. We need some new 12" ASA balls.

Didn't the Akron Racers do a tourney with Worth as the Sponsor and gave Worth bats to the winners. Now we could get behind that.

OQM (Tim), you need to work on that..... LOL

you may have just slowed down OQM's post count per day with that one... he's got to be like a beaver gnawing a 48" diameter tree with this new found challenge..:lmao:

Racers got the clout...LOL

I don't. When these SW Ohio teams figure it out and go south and bring the KY and IN and WV back with them... then numbers will go up and the benefits to them will increase.. to get sponsors like that. Until then.. go North young man !!!!

You calling me Beaver .. like in Beaver Cleaver? I whip a kid in second grade who thought that was going to be my nickname :D ( There was 6 Tim's in my hometown of 450 and all within a 3 year period of age. Call one and we all answered) Even though I was dead on the Beav.. ball hat and all !!!!

I still get that at the bank sometimes... "You any relative to Beaver?" or " You got a brother named Wally ?" :D

Lester: Bring that team of yours over to the Uniform Blowout on Sunday, October 16th instead of going down to Pastime Park. I thought you was never going back there. I know the locals want to beat up on your team a little bit... Got one spot left. :) ;)

Love the rings......never have seen that done before. Hoodies and shirts are my all time favorites along with a medal - definitely a great advertisement. If it weren't for tourney shirts, me and my DD wouldn't have anything to wear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trophies only for the lil girls.

I give out rings at my state tournament in Dover in 2011 and will again this year in Dover, Ohio in June of 2012.

Actually, for the 2013 season which I am planning.. I have a Championship ring series of tournaments in five states.

I like hoodies, too. Rather give them out any day versus trophies.

I like giving the little ones rings personally instead of trophies.. but you have to have some numbers to do so.

well, you are right... we said never... vurp, but traveling all summer as much as we did the team opted to stay local to try and avoid another $500 weekend per family. If Pastime is a bust and you have after we have held out....we'll come on over. Was looking for a 2-day format. May play up too if we have too. I know Kavin's team might be going to the ICE deal as well, he will most likely play up.

Well, its hard to pull those out of town teams in here when the ball parks aren't really setup for fastpitch and the teams have been as strong as they had in the past. The DOOM has had some success with their tournaments and beyond that the Hawks with the Dayton Metro. Expressway is our best deal going in Cincy at the moment but is all USSSA. Rotary Park is a good option too, same story. I know, I know, sanction smanction... don't want to resurrect that horse....Local teams have been getting some friendlies going from time to time in our area (which is ok to use our local fields) but to put on a high level tournament, the venue just doesn't exist in some peoples eyes. I wish it were the other way around, sure would have saved us a ton of cash this year.

Locals wanting to beat on us... yeah, we like the sound of that. We haven't played local in a while because our season goals have been ASA-A tournaments and wanting to new teams and faces instead of the same ol' same ol'. But, if that's the case, let them begin the beatings. We'll see how much we can take. Love a good challenge. We be low on the pole this year as 13's so I'm very certain we'll get plenty of lumps.

No beaver cleaver... but I wish I had now that you added the story to it. Good stuff.

Les, at the 1st warm up at the creek I saw some quality 12u teams. Lasers Purple, Hawks and others. That is a nice park to play at.

yeah I remember that, missed it though :-(. I also recall one year (maybe this year or the year prior) that the warm-ups drew in Compuware and a couple others. Rotary Park has had some good ones... we love that park, always have.

Team and individual trophies for 1st and 2nd place.Team and individual trophies for 3rd and 4th but since many are single elimination tourneys-give the 3rd and 4th place teams 3rd place trophies since many times that game isn't played.

Reason for team trophy-get your local piazzaria to sponsor team and have team meetings/after tourney get togethers and give your team trophies to that sponsor for thier trophy rack?!

I love the hoody/tshirt idea and giving those with trophies to the champion!-TIL IT RAINS?!Pre-order those items and put no year on the front and no teams on the back so to use the next year in case of rain?Get rained out after 3 pool play games and have co-champions?Double edged sword.

Trophies are great for the 10 minutes of trophy passing out but girls wear those shirts for years!

Yea, Compuware played in the 1st ever Grass Ball Tournament. in 2010. I umpired it. :D 5 teams.

So, are you saying you wouldn't go to the Doom event if it isn't ASA ? What if they decide to make it an All-Sanction event? Would you not go to Bill Beckham's All Sanction event either? How about Hawks going unsanctioned as well on their other events? Would you not attend?

Has nothing to do with sanctions. The SW Ohio teams just cheat themselves year end and year out and put out huge amount of money on travel and motels... Head North.. while the Columbus teams play in the I-270 Tournament circuit ;) and spend none. Do you ever see them in SW Ohio much? Not very often at all. That is why SW Ohio teams need to go south and into Indiana more often. Make that rivalry with those teams in those states... and then and only then will SW Ohio have good events. But, the mindset of the teams in SW Ohio is not there. So, they travel and their parents spend money every weekend on gas and motel bills. So be it. It will never change until the mindset changes.

You are going to Pastime Park which isn't girls softball diamonds.

You go to Berliner which isn't all softball diamonds.

Marysville isn't softball diamonds.

I am sure there is others, as well.

Hard to dedicate diamonds to one sport.. no matter if you are a city park or privately owned park.

Personally, I hear that college coaches have said when Berliner goes to making more and more diamonds of synthetic turf.. and if college showcases are held there on those types of fields.. then they won't be attending because it is useless to see college bound girls playing on a surface they will never see in college. You wait and see.. I see Berliner messing up something good actually if they keep adding turf fields. But, then again, more men's, women's and baseball tournaments will be held there. :(

Could be while Bill Beckham keeps looking for alternative locations :D

The new complex at West Chester they are thinking about is going to have synthetic turf... These idiot Convention and Visitors Bureau in this area think that is the way to go....LOL.. clueless. Too many baseball guys talking to them...LOL

The new one they want to build across from Armco park outside of Lebanon is going to be 8 diamonds... with those pitching mounds you can remove. I have begged them not to make the infield synthetic. ( They still have to get the State Legislature to OK a motel tax increase of 1/2% percent before they can go forward by the way)

Good luck traveling this year, Lester. :)

Not many 14u's can play on Saturday much anymore.. thus why the Sunday friendlies and tournaments. ;)

I like the hoodies.

If the event is rained out and trophies is not given out.. just take the plaque off the front which has the year on it.. then make just new plaque for the front the following year. That's what I would do if I gave out dust collectors. I don't so I don't worry about it.

never played at Berliner...

Had to get ASA berth in 2011... and didn't to play same ol' teams. A preference... and a welcomed choice by parents and players, something we like to ask... not demand.

Not traveling as much this year, Odd years are development for us... especially when lumps are normal. Part of the plan.

OQM, DOOM is always a must attend if the weekend is free and matches our goals. Regardless of sanctioning. For us its about goals first... then we look at how that aligns with cash flow. Not as easy as just looking at fields, parks, sanctioning... I'm sure we are not alone on this. Never had the free time to attend Bill's tournament... sounds great if the timing works out. 2 or 3 weekends off is a challenge as well, burn-out management is tough! Hawks deals are ok too. Again, timing for us has been in the way of this or goal driven schedules. Ok, I've beat that drum....

Lester, I just wanted to say... as I know you won the Eastern Regionals this past summer... but you might want to check since you WON a berth to the ASA/USA Nationals from there for 2012

You might want to check and see if you are even allowed to play in an Eastern Regional Qualifier. ASA rules on that might throw you into a pickle.

Remember what the 16u teams that won a ASA/USA berth prior to the state tournament last year were not allowed to play in ASA/USA qualifying events... which included the 16u State Tournament.

You might want to call Warren Jones and check that.

Just some heads up for you and your team. Be nothing worse than you having to give up that berth that your girls fought so hard to win over a technicality.

You do know I wish you the best all season.. and I dang well hope you bring home a National Title one day in the future. As well as any Ohio team !!!!

Back on subject...There is nothing worse than 1) getting handed a t-shirt or hoodie that doesn't fit. 2) getting handed a t-shirt or hoodie that's just like the one you just bought. 3) getting handed a t-shirt or hoodie that looks cheap 4) getting handed a t-shirt or hoodie really just advertises a cause, such as charity, etc. 5) actually receiving your t-shirt or hoodie 12 weeks after the tournament is over. The point is, if you're going to hand out clothes, you almost have to make lots of extras so that you have enough to hand out the proper sizes at the tournament. At least a nice trophy is one-size-fits-all.

Shirts & medals are both nice...medals are smaller to store than trophies and are fun to pull out & relive the moment later in life.
Shirts or hoodies are for now. My DD wears them all year at school.

Rebel Games in Florida prints the t-shirts to-order on the spot. They have a trailer set up with all the printing equipment right there on premises. Seems like a logical way to do it. All leftover shirt inventory can be used next year - or at the next event.
