In the Penalty Box
SCENARIO: An 18U showcase team signs up for a showcase tournament with 10 players. (The head coach said they MIGHT pick up one more to make 11 for the tourney. A 16U team in the same organization had also planned to enter the same showcase tourney and play in the 16U division. The 16U team ended up not having enough players and parent support to enter the tourney. The head 16U coach (which also happens to be the organizations president) decides to send 4 players from the 16U team to play for the 18U team in the tourney. They are not to just sit the bench but also play.
Questions/Thoughts?
1.Should Org. President have told the 18U showcase team members of this? (Since exposure is at a premium)
2.Would you just ride it out with less field time and not complain?
3.Would you make sure the Org. leader know that it could affect team chemistry, when these other players just show up and take playing time?
4. Limit the playing time of the 16U players that are playing up?
5. Try and explain this to the parents of the 18U team? The 16U Team?
Any thoughts? Was this a bad move by the Organization President? Was it a good move since he is trying to include the 16U players? As a reminder, the 16U team had originally intended to enter the Tourney in the 16U bracket. Any other thoughts/ideas?
