SCENARIO: An 18U showcase team signs up for a showcase tournament with 10 players. (The head coach said they MIGHT pick up one more to make 11 for the tourney. A 16U team in the same organization had also planned to enter the same showcase tourney and play in the 16U division. The 16U team ended up not having enough players and parent support to enter the tourney. The head 16U coach (which also happens to be the organizations president) decides to send 4 players from the 16U team to play for the 18U team in the tourney. They are not to just sit the bench but also play.

Questions/Thoughts?
1.Should Org. President have told the 18U showcase team members of this? (Since exposure is at a premium)
2.Would you just ride it out with less field time and not complain?
3.Would you make sure the Org. leader know that it could affect team chemistry, when these other players just show up and take playing time?
4. Limit the playing time of the 16U players that are playing up?
5. Try and explain this to the parents of the 18U team? The 16U Team?

Any thoughts? Was this a bad move by the Organization President? Was it a good move since he is trying to include the 16U players? As a reminder, the 16U team had originally intended to enter the Tourney in the 16U bracket. Any other thoughts/ideas?

When I Coach we didn't have Showcase Tournaments. But I really like the post. Allot to think about.

I can definitely see pros and cons, but my opinion is that it's not fair to the 18-U team. When they entered it, the coach said they might pick up one player and instead they picked up 4. While I am sure all of the girls will still play, it will definitely cut into the number of at bats and innings played of the 18-U players. While it's unfortunate for the 16-U players that were committed and wanting to play in the showcase, their team did not have enough support. If I was the 18-U coach and the org president did this to my team without me knowing and my buy-in, I'd be infuriated. Just my opinion ....

I say bad move due to the fact the 2 teams are 2 separate entities. Just because his team doesnt have enough doesnt give him the right to infringe on the other team. What do the parents of the 18u players say when theyre sitting for their own team and watching others play. If the 18u was short one or 2, take that many , but to just put 4 on because your president of the org is wrong.

In this scenario of yours, what is the 18u coaches position? Is it being forced on him or is he ok with it?

Are the16U girls paying to go to the tourny? Or the 18u team is paying for it? Not sure as a parent that I would be ok with girls coming in taking playing time and using my fees to do it. I would expect my coach to step in. Also doesnt sound like the guy needs to be president of the organization due to his lack of concern for the older girls still needing exposure. He is only concerned about his team. JMO.
