May be a stupid question, but here goes..... I know walks are excluded from this call. My question is this....is the at bat that results in a walk also not included in the total at bat count?
I have an app that is dead on in ab, or etc, but the slugging percentage is much much higher than another fellow got with his calcs. It looks to me that the app does not count the at bat that ended in a walk, fielders choice etc, ending in a much higher slugging percentage than using total bases and total at bats (including the at bats for walks, fx, etc). To me it seems that if the walk doesn't count as a base and is excluded, the at bat should be also.
Which is correct?
A .694slugging percentage as opposed to a .498, but neither are too bad.
Thanks for any help on this.

My guess with doing no research would be BB excluded from AB's but FC should be included to address the two outcomes you bring up in your scenario. BB wouldn't count for an AB or a base reached and FC counts as an AB but not base reached for this purpose. Not sure why both those things wouldn't be true. Like I said no research done, just top of my head there.

You don't include walks but do include all official at bats including fielder's choices. The easiest way to think about it is that it's calculated identical to batting averages except that doubles count like 2 hits, triples as 3 hits and homers as 4.

So assume 11 plate appearances including 1 walk ... so 10 at bats ... assume 4 hits ... 1 single, 1 double, 1 triple and 1 homer ... that's 10 total bases on hits ... 10 divided by 10 at bats is a 1.000 slugging percentage.

Agreed, but again key to the OP's question I think is to not be counting FC's same as a single. This would be a good example of stat stuffing in my opinion.

Plate Appearances (PA) are every time a turn batting is completed regardless of outcome. "At Bat" (AB) are the times at bat that didn't end in a BB, HBP, Sac (bunt), Sac Fly or catcher's interference.

If the issue is AB, there should be discrepancy in batting average too since it also divides by AB.

Dad ... as I at least implied in my post, you don't include fielder's choices in the numerator (since you only include hits), but you do include them in the denominator since they are official at bats.

Softball Stas from the android store.
I checked the batting average mathematically and it is correct, but something is way off it appears in the slugging pe4centage.
if you remove the at bats from walks and fielder's choice, the numbers are very close.....
maybe time to find a different app, grabbed this one because it was just handy to have it on the phone e at vqmes.
