DAYTON, Tenn. – For the six graduating seniors and the rest of the Bryan College Softball squad, they capped their regular-season play in remarkable fashion on Thursday evening, as they battled for a split against the 5th-ranked team in the country, Georgia Gwinnett College. After falling 0-12 in a five-inning run-rule opener, the Lions roared back and upset the top-ranked Grizzlies 5-3 in the nightcap to secure the non-conference split. The win came on big connections from the duo of Allison Walker (SR/Hixson, Tenn.) and Heidi Smith (JR/Cookeville, Tenn.) in the second and third innings before Bryan sealed the victory with a three-run game-deciding rally in the bottom of the fifth. Three walks, a single from Lindsey Dunn (JR/Tennga, Ga.), and a costly error committed by Georgia Gwinnett was all Bryan needed to outlast the visitors. For some Lions, the triumph marked their final action seen on their home field before heading to Kingsport, Tenn. next week where they will pick up post-season play at the Appalachian Athletic Conference Softball Tournament.
