A serious congrats to both the Pitts. Spirit and Ohio Ice. IMHO, they were the 2 best teams at the Spano (12U). Was able to watch both several times throughout the weekend, class coaches and very talented players. Also the Lady Lasers Silver played really solid ball all weekend, very impressive for an all 11U team. Good luck to all in 2006. Lee Pyles-Central Ohio Stingrays 10U. :)

I saw the ball rolling tie breaker last year. I guess it was better then flipping a coin. After that game we had all of our coaches join a Bocce Ball league just in case we needed a good roll....lol.

The tournament is over and it was played and decided by the rules that each coach was aware of going in.

It sounds like sour grapes to continue to complain about rules and procedures that were fully know to everyone. If the rules were made on the fly... then some valid points of contention could have been raised - However that was NOT the case.

My suggestion - if you don't like it play elsewhere but I will tell you that you would be hard pressed to find an indoor as good as the one in Spano Dome. Now that everyone has been educated and informed... next year there should be no posts concerning tie breakers. Now - don't you think you beat this horse a little longer than necessary?

It is OVER. What are you going to complain about next summer - time limits, beeing in strong pools, seeding process? If you are - you might want to consider soccer.

Should be a nice quiet board this year, once the game is over ... no questioning of anything that went on!

People asking reasonable questions isn't out of line, that's how the TD's learn and make improvements for the following year. In pool play and the early rounds there are time considerations as in any tournament, but when you get to the last game, are we really that concerned with an extra 15-30 minutes or just in a rush to push the teams out the door and count our money?

We had some umps at Compuware use the ball rolling instead of coin flip to decide home team, that was fun. To decide a game, I'm not sure anyone would have been laughing.

If you've gone thru the book, at least you have a chance with the roll versus a coin flip where the other team or the ump may make the call.

I think you skip any coin flip and have opposing coaches go to "Rock, Paper, Scissors".

Really, who cares about all this crap?
It's supposed to be a prep for the teams for summer ball.
Then NSA comes in and sticks their fat hand in the till and declares it a national qualifier??
I've always wondered -- do the teams that qualify for the NSA nationals out of the SpanoDome get to play their games under a roof with nets and eight players when they get to the NSA's Big Show???

Well, I didn't mean anything critical, you gotta get it resolved somehow, with time and schedule progress as a very important consideration. I think the ball rolling experience is funny now, but it was a "you gotta be kidding me" scenario at the time. This is all in good nature, you need the forum to share ideas, relieve pressure, laugh at yourself (and others), vent, learn, and some other stuff too.

Instead of the coaches rolling the ball though, may I suggest something that involves everyone, or at least more of the team - like which team's 5 chosen representatives can eat the most hot dogs in a 5 minute span, ... and ... without belching (an automatic disqualifier)?

It's all good ...

It is hard to believe that an Indoor tournament is a National Qualifier. The indoor game is so different than a true Fastpitch game. Even so different that the OHSAA doesn't even recognize it as softball. I guess it is all about the $$$.
Times are a changing folks. :-/

JMHO, but with the exception of "dead ball" on pop ups/fly balls there is really very little difference in indoor/outdoor at a dirt facility like Thunderplex and Spano Dome. Yes, I agree with the complaints of "drop dead-revert back rule" especially in the championship game, but for everthing 1 thing that is different I can name 25 things that are the same! As for OHSSA, I hope they continue to not recognize indoor, that way we can continue to make strides of catching up to the level of California softball!!!

Be glad that OHSAA does not have any (ok, maybe a little) control over travel ball. They could easily mandate that any sanctioned MS and HS player cannot play winter ball. OHSAA rules should not have anything to do with out of season softball, but in some ways they do.

oops. I didn't mean anything bad against Indoor ball, and I am glad ohsaa keeps their nose out of travel ball. When I said a different type of game I just meant that I have seen hits that if outdoors would be great hits but indoors it is an out. and the dead ball rule, and the 3 foul out rule in Indy and a few other quirks. Some things the same, some different. Again, I meant nothing bad. ;D

DUH!!!!!!!!! The NSA was/is ALWAYS about making money folks! Why do you think they have the "Super World Series" and a million teams at nationals! Some roster teams too! We played 10u several years ago and went to ASA 10u world series, there was less then 20 teams. Hmmm.... ::)

I agree, for all the negatives involved with indoor ball the big plus is that the girls are playing competive ball with a foot of snow on the ground. The alternative is to set up the orange cones for bases outside and play ball. I cant believe that any of us really like any of the tie breakers, but it is something we all have to live with to play this time of year! It's always great to see so many dedicated girls working so hard and playing indoor ball to be ready for the summer season! Just great stuff!

how true, thank goodness we have the opportunities to play ball during the blahs of winter. Everyone benefits, especially the girls. Lets not find fault and criticize, just APPRECIATE the opportunities!!!
Kind of like the kid (or adult) that has everything and still whines causes it not the right color!

I feel bad for the young ladies that played their hearts out on the fields in the Dome this weekend. Instead of talking about all the great softball played , this has turned into a complaint fest. I witnessed some great games in both the 10 and 12 divisions and I kow other did too, so lets talk about that instead of complaining.JMHO
