Teams needing players..

I find it very interesting that 100s of girls show up to these try outs but yet they still need players? Discussion welcomed

There are not that many teams that have 100's of girls show up to try out. Also, I noticed more girls at try outs this year who lacked the typical "travel skill set" than I have ever seen.

Some coaches don't have the skills to develop their players so they are waiting for the studs to show up. Some are looking for specific players and didn't see what they wanted at the tryouts. Some are only looking for certain ages. Some are just nuts. I needed 6 players and filled all my spots with the girls who came to my tryouts. I'd rather have girls who WANT to play for me instead of begging kids to please come to my team.

We had no trouble either ... we also had 6 spots open, had 2 tryouts, had 40 girls show up, and easily found the girls to fit the rest of our roster ... the only hard part was turning away girls who we and most teams I am sure would have loved to have.

Some of it it I think is from girls who committed but backed out after try outs. Others are teams who have enough but looking at maybe getting lucky and finding a stud. Scary are the ones looking for a no 1 pitcher or catcher because they don't have one. I would be worried.

Quality not quantity is what you need to show up. I'm willing to develop a player, within reasonable limits, but if the player isn't going to be able to compete no matter how hard I work with her, or the parents are too much of a burden, I'm going to pass. There were a couple of years that I went until April to fill the last couple of slots just because the fit wasn't right.

Ya, im with Hawks-Ferrignohad 3 tryouts seen 4 girls and 2 at private tryouts. Id love to see 100s of girls to pick from. If anyone knows of these 100s of players that are 10u send them my way thanks

I thought the Hawks tryouts were off the hook. I thought parking for the tryout was crazy. Am I mixing orgs up?

Right org wrong age group. Our Cbus teams had huge turn outs this year. At 10u thgh we had very little come out in SWO as open tryouts. Had about 8 privates 3 show at open.

I noticed same thing. Some stress they are in it for developing girls for the next level but then they are only looking for the ones they dont have to develop at all.....take a chance coaches and believe in your OWN skills to develop players.....like we preach to the girls...believe in yourself!

Static 97 North was needing 9 players and we filled the team with our tryouts and 1 private tryout. In saying that, I have 12 players now, one is just going to run for pitchers and catchers - she wanted on the team to do just that, what a great kid.

We had approximately 20 girls total show up for 3 open tryouts. We have had 3 private tryouts. I have no problem with developing players but they at least have to have SOME experience and good athleticism to even begin to be competitive at the 14u level; at least at the "B" level. As it stands, we have two former rec players and six former TB players so we are standing at 8. We will continue to post and look for players that fit our team. We are also looking to fill specific positons which at 14u are a little too late to start at the very beginning with. For example, we have two projects which have caught in rec league a couple of years ago, expressed a desire to start back up and they may develop into good catchers.

Where do all those 100 plus players go after they do not get offered spots??? IMO there should be some kind of list generated on here with the available players for coaches to look at so they can contact the ones that didnt get offers to fill all the openings that are still out there. After all isnt it supposed to be all about the girls.

They have it under "<State Name> players looking for teams"
