A couple of years ago, we attended a tournament in late July/early August where there were travel and rec teams both. ?There were seperate divisions, one for travel teams and one for the rec teams. ?Everyone seemed to enjoy the tournament. ?IMHO, this seemed good. ?The rec teams could see what the next level was all about. ?Parents could inquire about the commitment, coaches, etc...
Not to mention, from the travel side, that it could be an early look at some girls. ?I'm hesitating on saying the "R" word. ?And it would be a good time to get the word out about try-outs.
I beleive that July 4th and after would be a good time to schedule these. ?Most of the Rec All-Stars have formed their teams by then.
I've never ran a tournament, nor do I wish to. ?So I have no idea as to the logistical nightmare. ?Maybe keep it to the 10U and 12U? ?This seems to be where most of the girls make the transition.
Well, am I just howling at the moon? ?Any thoughts? I'm throwing this out there to provoke some thought. Maybe someone can run with it.
