OK so you can pick what northern teams you want included and which ones you don't

WTH. I think there are far more elite northern teams. Besides Dayton Metro name

other tough tournament in the south (Dayton, Cinn. Area)

Madness 16U (Saunders)
Ice Black and Gold 18U
Wolfpack Kyler
Wolfpack 15U
Outlaws 15U and 16U
Valley Extreme (Heaverly)
Ice 15U (Cole)
Most good Lasers teams seem to have alot of northern girls

And I could go on and on.

Define North. Being from the South, I consider anything C-Bus and up as North. That being said, give me a list of competitive, top level tournaments South of C-Bus. ( In the state of Ohio )

Here's my list Gopher...

1.
2.
3.

And for the record, I don't consider Dayton Metro "south" of Columbus since it's a stones throw from I-70. I-70 being the divider in my mind.

isn't North anything above the I-275 loop? ;&

Us "Cincy" southerners get to play ball in February since our climate is so much better. You northerners got it rough. Geesh, north vs south... the battle continues. Where's Yosemite Sam at when I need him...:p

We've played in good tournaments all over. Hard to peanut butter spread North vs South in our little bitty state vs where many would consider where stronger tournaments are located south of the KY southern boarder.

I have talked to some stingray's coaches and they admitted that a lot of it is

who you know on the close calls. After all it's the American way. Corruption

that is.

Not to go off subject, but speaking in regards to NWO Ohio. There just arent many teams that leave our area. The Wizard Elite teams 12-18u do, last few years Dave Day's Magic white team played a tough schedule and Ryan Demars Magic team will play a tough schedule. That's a total of 8 teams (The Wizards have a 15/16/17/18u elite teams). I hear a million excuses why teams don't but if your going to put this much time into why not challenge your team. That's just not for me.

So in 5 age brackets we are sending out a total of 8 teams, that's less then 2 an age level. I'm glad we still have coaches like Kujawa, Coyler, Demars, Gwodz, Eisenbrandt, Day, Baubein, Dunsmore in NWO, but we need a few more of them.

I need to add 2 coaches to my list I think would play anybody anytime from NWO: John Morningstar and Larry Jaworski. Thats still not very many for an area our size with the amount of teams we have.

But are they "elite teams" that are trophy hunting? Or just more average teams who don't want to travel far and spend a lot of $? I don't really know of any elite teams who trophy hunt above 10/12U.

North vs South....Will it never die? At 16U last year the "North" had Valley Extreme Heverly, Sapphires, Tidalwaves 94 and MC Madness Black in attendance at the USA/ASA Nationals in Chattanooga TN. In order for these teams to get there they had to battle numerous teams from the south along with some pretty darn good teams from the north (Outlaws, Ohio Ice, Hurricanes Black) just to mention a few along with some strong teams from PA, just to get there. So, at least at the 16U level I felt the north (listed teams and some others) and the south, Doom, Buckeye Heats, Lasers, Classics and others were pretty much on an even keel. Anyones game, on any given day. Honestly cant wait to battle all of these teams again this year, then we can debate it again next year! lol

North - South, doesn't really matter, once you are tagged as a Trophy Hunter, you will NOT be considered for some of the better invitational tournaments. This can start at 10u but a organization can carry the "Trophy Hunter" name all the way though. And it only hurts the girls that are out there busting their butts every weekend and wondering why they aren't in certain tournaments, and listening to coaches make excuses. The girls don't pick the tournaments, the coaches do.

The Wizard "Elite" teams are the ones that play in tough tournaments along with the Magic coaches I named. I'm not saying everybody has to play an ASA/USA Schedule. A tough schedule is dependant on a specfic teams skill level. I am saying I see a lot of teams scheduling wins not looking to challenge their teams. You have to think outside the box. If im coaching a strong 14u team and we can't travel why not play up in weaker tourneys? If I have a low level travel team why not schedule Rising Starz? Yeah you might go 1-4 or 0-5 but keep playing up to and above your level and your teams skill level and competitiveness will continue to improve rapidly.

You want to get the most out of your daughter or your team challenge them. One of the things I've always found amusing is when the big fish in the little pond enters the big pond for the first time. They as well as their parents are in shock best they see the big pond as guppies lol.

Just my thoughts, I'm certainly not saying there aren't other philosophy's or opinions. To each their own. I'm just of the mind set of if we're going to do this let's try and be the best.

The Classics, Buckeye Heat, and Lasers would not be southern teams. Lasers are based out of North, and others Columbus.

Seems like the Buckeye Heat teams are from everywhere! I played or seen them in Boardman, Findlay, Strongsville, Columbus and just about everywhere we played there was a Buckeye Heat team registered, so Im not exactly positive where theyre all from! LOL Im sure Carol will set me straight though.

Rick:

Founded by Joe Abraham (JoeA), the Buckeye Heat organization, nee Worthington Heat, now has 17 teams. Six of those teams are based out of Toledo/NWO, with the remaining based out of Central Ohio.

Each team has a fair degree of independence, subject to "quality control" oversight by co-Presidents Jean May (the Bear May) and Ted Mason. Finances for the organization have been handled for several years now with virtually flawless work from Jeff Chirdon. And Jean and Ted spend a ton of hours in their multiple responsibilities of putting out fires, working with Toledo liaison Hugh Richberg, communicating on organizational issues with all Buckeye Heat coaches, and conducting what I with full disclosure of bias think is a pretty darn good tryout.

Shortly after the formation of the Worthington Heat, and before the rise of the Toledo branch, teams in the organization started drawing from players in almost all areas of the state. (I'd say NEO is probably the area from which the organization has had the fewest players). Hence the name change. But I believe it is accurate to say that the majority of coaches for the Buckeye Heat organization come from the Central Ohio area.

Hope this answers your questions, Rick. Also hope we get to see you and your team this year. You always remind me that the pressure cooker can still be a heck of a lot of fun.
