in the other sport not allowed to say on here so??er which my dd really likes to play in off season seen a referee throw all parents out of game and kids finished playing while parents were in parking lot
Baseball is different than softball and girls are different than boys. They play with their emotions, that is why there is alot of cheering in softball and none is baseball. Ladies tend to get really involved in a game and if you think they are not going to give you a comment or 2 under their breath, than you mustn't have a teenage daughter. I never condone disrespecting an umpire, but you are dealing with young girls here who are going to say things that they shouldn't. My advise to umpires like that, drop the rabbit ears or umpire baseball. You aren't doing the girls any good if you are tossing them for something as trivial as that. JMHO
Bretman.. I think we was typing a post at the same time. Me at Post #19 and you at #20.
More than are you kidding me... and more than under her breath.
Some people have the right temperment to be an effective umpire, some don't. Anyone that "loses it" because some kid mutters something under their breath might not have the right temperment!
I've had a couple of players (they were adults, not kids) and a few coaches use the "You've got to be kidding me" line before. All I did was give them an icy glare and ask them, quietly, in my best "mean old umpire" voice, "What do you think I'm kidding about?". No more problems.
If you can't handle the heat, maybe you shouldn't be out on the field.
Yes, I was typing before seeing your post. Even then, there is no reason to "go off" on anybody. If somebody does something that warrants an ejection, just eject them and be done with it.
When was the last time you watched a college game or international game where you saw a batter go down looking and say a word to the ump? How about never? They sprint back to the dug out and get ready to play defense. They try to figure out what they did wrong by getting down by two strikes to begin with.
Well here is what we saw. This young lady was showing up ump for two day's. When pitching or batting. Something was said to her Saturday about it by ump. Think it finally boiled over after constant head shaking and back talking under her breath.
Also fan's from her team were out of control at times. One actually threatened to wait outside for umpire after tournament. Another tried getting them riled up talking about being an umpire and how horrible his strike zone was and how bad his calls were.
Our team felt umpires were very consistent in there strike zone and very fair. One thing in life you learn is you treat others as you want to be treated JMHO
The word "friggen" will get you tossed as everyone knows what it is a word for. I just can't believe these parents really allow these girls to even say something like the word "friggen" when they know what it is slang for in the first place.

Ohioquakerman, she is not allowed to say friggen and I am constanly giving her the what for for it! But it gets said a lot in school and teachers let it go by! It has become a habit. Had I heard her say it to him, which Like I said I didn't hear it, I read her lips she would have heard it from me.
This topic was not whether or not she was right or wrong, but wheter the umpire handled it poorly. And I believe he did.

I do not condone an ump going off on a kid but, everyone on here knows that these guys and gals take way more abuse than they deserve. I've been coaching girls fastpitch for a lot of years and I can count on one hand how many times a bad call or bad strike zone has cost our team a game....
Resect the umps. You catch more flies with sugar than you do with s**t!

I think the temperment statement earlier was spot on. In any sports officials are going to have calls questioned, how they respond speaks volumes. It is a little off topic but funny. I was coaching a 6th grade girls basketball game yesterday. The officials had worked the city league championship the night before so they were pretty experienced.
The opposing teams coach questions a call in the 4th quarter. The official calmy explained the rule and why he made the call. The coach was not happy with the explanation and starts to get very vocal.
The official tells him "maybe instead of worring about my call you should go to a box and 1 because #14 is killing you.
The coach says "how dare you tell me how to do my job" and the official responds "why not you are telling me how to do mine" At this point the coach goes onto the court ears red and raising Heck, 2 techincals in 8 seconds and they were escorting the coach off the court.
Moral of the story....everyone has a job to do, stick to your own!
