Went to watch a district final today and one of the fans told me that one team that normally has 10 players was competing with 9 tonight. The other girl (a senior who normally plays and starts i believe) took today off to "attend the race" I don't know what race they were talking about but to take off to attend a race ? I assume it was nascar ? unreal . MD

Nascar isn't until Sunday, Dan.

Could it have been HS track race?

i';ll try to verify what the real scoop was-- pretty sure the girl was not a track star . the person said she missed practice yesterday and would not be there today. ??

She may have been setting over at Boone Coleman's Portsmouth Raceway Park. LOL! Has it flooded yet this year? At times they could hold Boat Races there.:lmao:

FASTPITCH! Anything else, And you're playing too SLOW!

Lol I think they have not been able to race there yet this year because of that problem of being flooded

Did her team win?

I was told it was the NASCAR race at Bristol.

No. They lost 1-0

Dan, I was also at that game. Did you see that both pitchers were illegally pitching on just about every pitch and the umpires did nothing. One pitcher was out of the lane on just about every pitch. The other pitcher would leap on most of her pitches and when she wasn't leaping, she was approaching the rubber from the back of the circle and not stopping for a second before continuing with her pitch.

Bill, you mean she was actually allowed to use the momentum from walking from the back of the circle to the rubber to complete the pitch? Wow.

Yep. And nothing was done. I was told by several people "that the umpires down here don't call illegal pitches." I just shook my head. Amazing.

Seen alot of illegal pitches this year that was never called! Dont understand why these umpires do nothing about it, in high school to college, they need to start calling these pitchers out for it. That is the only way they learn.

I think this is covered under one of those phantom OH$AA rules buried deep in their rulebook that says "as long as the pitcher doesn't gain an advantage..." :lmao:

That's always the silly explanation I always got during high school ball.

Walk-ups on live game pitches? WOW - I don't think I've ever seen that! But somehow I'm NOT surprised!

I think I understand now, it's the HS umpires not the teams that you constantly bash. I feel better now!

Well, gersh - you got PART of that right, but you left out one very key point: I tend to bash INCOMPETENT umpires. Never forget that it is the few Bosos that try their best to give the whole umpiring community a bad name. I can honestly say the majority of umpires I've dealt with were decently skilled. And it's those guys that are out there busting their tails to GET IT RIGHT that deserve tons of credit.

Question: If your DD plays ball, does she shake hands with the umpires after EVERY game and thank them for umpiring her game... EVEN when she disagreed with their calls and her team lost the game?

YES! My DD and all of the team respect the umpires even if we don't agree with their calls.

I was told the guy behind home was the same guy who was behind the plate for Ports-Notre Dame and Clay 2 weeks ago. IF it was the same guy he actually instructed a pitcher on how to properly do a appeal to 3rd base on a runner leaving early on a tag play. I mean he walked in front of home , and verbally told her to step off and throw the ball to 3rd. This was in a game that had conference title implications . He actually called a much better ball/strike game in this game than he did the other.

As far as the illegal pitches go--I was watching from the west side fan section. If I mentioned anyone being illegal they would have attempted a beheading of ol Manitou right there on the spot. I don't have a lot of fans over there. Honestly I was'nt watching Kegley that close, but saw how Zimmerman literally side steps to clear her hips , I guess thats how she gets so much spin ? MD

When Zimmy pitched against us at our field, our coach brought it up to the Umpires that she was outside the lane, with her stride foot. The excuse was , there is a ditch where she would have to land and I might twist my ankle. Blue agreed and she continued to step outside the lane. My DD was the only batter to hit off of her that night. I later asked her, does she put alot of movement on her pitches? She said not really, she just can nibble at the corners real well.
I wish the best of luck from the teams south of I-70 in the tourney.
