what happened to bigtrain?

Bigtrain gets what he wants - air time. The very fact we are talking about him now, like he passed on, is a testament to this. Okay so he's a character, and a good coach, and has a good team (okay a "darn" good team). He is also a master of promotion, he "gets it" regarding promotions of whatever idea/concept he wants to sponsor. That's okay, after all this is just recreation. Surely though, he realizes that if he barks thru his fence at everybody, that some people will poke a broomstick back at him thru the links occasionally, either because they are jealous of him, or dislike his promotional activities, or they just wanna "play" some also every now and again  ... WHATEVER.

Hat's off to Bigtrain on his success with his own kids, and his Slammers team, along with several other clubs and teams they raise the bar. Our team is one of many that considers the Slammers a rival more or less, win some lose some, respectfully. Between the lines during games, it's war ... afterwards, not so much. But please don't get mad at me if I choose to lob a few grenades back once in a while. It's all in fun, no reason for it to get personal.

Lastly, to anyone who TRULY believes it is REALLY about the girls, and learning to compete as a team, while reaching your personal potential, and gaining poise & maturity which will serve them a lifetime ... is there anyone that naive? I hope so, ... and God bless you.

From a fan of the slammers. The girls, the coaching staff, and the parents work real hard and we all know that is is tough to be #1. The slammers have to work extra hard to win because everyone wants to beat the number 1 team in any sport. We, however, welcome the changlenge.

What criteria are used to proclaim a team being #1 at this point?

The slammers usually dominate the 14U bracket when they are a 12U team is a stong factor towards #1 and they play and practice year round to achieve that level of play. When they go to Nationals they drop back down to 12U and are pretty much unstoppable.

There are MANY 14-u teams that the Slammers have not played. Most 14-u teams have just started the season (because of jr high / high school). It's a bit early to be claiming #1 for ANY team. Also, the Slammer girls are not the only girls that work hard year round...many girls work hard year round. It's part of thier routine, but it doesn't have to be announced on OFC.

Well...if the only thing that qualifies you as "Number 1" is hard work then my daughter's team is "NUmber 1" also. I need to go find her and tell her!!!

Well before everyone gets indignant about a #1 claim you should remember it is not a claim, it's speculation based on the way college polls are done at the beginning of the season based on past record, returning players, strength of schedule and how far they went last year. And don't forget this is a 12U team capable of playing and succeeding in an older age bracket. For you 14U parents who think their kids work hard too, no one is taking anything away for ANYONES DD who works hard but how many of your 14U teams can play in a tournament at 16U and dominate?

I think Bigtrain's right, the people on here squalling like kicked cats are the one's with an attitude problem, not him. I've seen his team play and if your team is better, play and beat them, if not then get ready to trade arrogance for humility. Talk is cheap, prove what you say on the field. ;D ;D ;D

... trade arrogance for humility.

Isn't that the whole point of any bigtrain thread?

Fair or not, the attitude expressed by representatives of a team on a public message board are going to be attributed to the organization as a whole. I see no point in putting a team in that light. I would hope, along with skills and other physical training, one would want to teach players by example that humility is a virtue.

The thread that Big Train started was about his son on a fastpitch board. It had nothing to do with the Slammers. Big Train "used" this forum to brag about his sons accomplishment. The point of the thread was soley to brag. It had nothing to do with the Slammers. The thread turned towards the Slammers rather than Big Trains arrogance. The Slammers are a very good team and no one can take that away but I think the general consensus is not about whether Big Train stays or goes or whether the Slammers work hard or not - I think I can speak for many in saying that we are all VERY TIRED of Big Trains arrogance. To use Big Train's lines - "I don't give a CRAP" how many A + your son had.
