Is she still playing? If so where. Did not see her on the Tiffin Roster this year.

I didn't check the roster, but I thought she was playing for Heidelberg College (In Tiffin) not Tiffin University.

I noticed that too, I wonder if she is still playing somewhere else. College ball is really hard to juggle, it's not for everyone.

How many started that have stopped, happens a lot over the years. Is it due to not a right fit, balance of school and playing, or burnout?

I had a girl quit sophmore year because the coach would not let her hit like I taught her. He recruited her at a tournament she tore up. Go figure.

He made her change, her batting avg fell, she lost the drive.
That is what her dad said to me in a email a few months ago.

Statistics show that only 15% of kids that play college softball play their full 4 years.......wow.

College softball is "smoke and mirrors" and broken promises.

Many would claim that this is true concerning travel ball as well, but so far in the 5 years or so of travel ball I have not found this to be the case.

So 3 kids out of a roster of 20 stick it out......that sounds about right. Some can't juggle the college/athlete experience, other lose their starting spot and quit, others believe they should be starting and quit, and yet others can't stand the coaches and quit or the coaches are tired of the kid's bullcrap and are released.

A biggest reason is not being able to handle the academics and playing at the same time, it can be a big big challenge...

Len,

Another huge reason is that D3 schools can only offer academic money. The coach can get some academic money for a kid but it will usually be only about 1/2 of what is required annually. D3 schools are quite expensive. An $18,000 a year scholarship sounds great until you see that the annual tuition, room & board, and fees are $36,000 or even higher.

So if a family and/or kid doesn't want to go deep into debt paying for college, then the kid has to decide between getting a job or playing ball. Let's face it, at the D3 level, softball isn't going to get you a six figure career.

And then there is another route to playing college softball. This storyline is still developing and I promise to fill y'all in when it has come to fruition. :cap:

College ball can be smoking mirrors and broken promises......but it can also be one of the greatest experiences of your life. Like travel ball, it all depends on where you are and what you put into it. I would never say it was a bad experience but I would also never say it was easy.

Same for D2 colleges

The softball field is an extention of the classroom, where you still learn valuable life lessons, but you are dead on klump with your statement, that happens to be my signature...."You get out of it what you put into it"

or they have a career ending injury which is what happened to my DD her sophomore year in college. She's a senior now at a D2 school and still gets upset when softball season starts cuz she can't be out on the field playing. Luckily she didn't lose her athletic scholarship.
