When is enough "enough"

I totally get the point of this article. But, what exactly does it mean when people say "let them be kids"? My grandfather had to quit school after the first grade to go to work. My grandmother quit school after the 8th grade to go to work. Who let them be kids? We are talking about a game. I would have given anything as a child to have the kind of opportunities our kids have to play. I tell you this, if my kids weren't putting in the time honing their skills and playing softball they sure as heck wouldn't be sitting on the couch eating potato chips and playing video games in place of that time. They would definitely have more time for household chores!

Let kids be kids. My definition:
it's a game like you stated, playing without having to train year round because they want to be recognized their freshman year by the big schools (unless they choose to). It does become more clear as being their choice as kids get older.

My parents grew up during war, so we know some of our parents and grandparents had it rough. But thank GOD I don't need to compare their situation with my kids
