who would you play (Coaches)

Had a girl come back from a bad ankle (not broken as originally thought) and when the girl did not start the mom went up to my assistant and asked him why she wasn't even in the batting order. We were batting 9, subbing 2 and the girl had been out for three weeks...the mom did not say anything to me...no idea how bad my response would have been, not good!

I guess my point is, even though I talked with the girl and thought it was obvious that she should "ease" her way back into it, her mom thought that since she had been cleared by the doctor to play, we were wronging her by not getting her immediately back into the game...was I wrong?

Not at all. You talked to the player and then made a coaching decision. Original poster made it sound like there was no communication between the player and coach.

Hey, just throwing this out there. :yahoo: How important was the game? If pool play or tourney play? Why you ask? I would have sat both and put in my closest thing to third string catcher! Not worth the possible injury or damage done now to preform later in season. That's if we can afford to lose one to gain more game time later. Then ask who's ready to go in next game. Easy to arm chair, though.:D Quiting though not an option.

It was in travel season not fall ball...but at 16u do u think a player should know if they are ready to play or if the pain is just to bad.do u think it is the player responsibility to let a coach know how she/he is felling. with all the stuff that a coach has to do to get ready for the next game do u think a coach needs to ask a player if she can play. and yes coach knew both player were felling a little pain ...and the player with a sore knee has went down durning a warn up run..my thing is if she was ready to play why didnt she tell her coach she was good to go...why get madd and quit if your the one that said u were in pain to start with.

I absolutely think the coach should have asked her if she could play. With all the stuff a coach has to do to get ready for the next game......like what make out a line-up card? LOL. I don't think the girl should have quit on you, but I also don't think the coach should have quit on her either. If a coach isn't gonna be concerned enough about his/her players then maybe they shouldn't be coaching.
