Whats a good number of players to maintain on your roster is 11, 12 or 13

I say 11 but is heavily dependent up your team setup including: player location, player commitment, schedule, and skill sets you have/don't have.

This would be a good Poll question.

11, if your players are versitile. 12, if you have girls that pitch only. 13, you probably just went too far. The west coast and south western teams carry 15 - 20. Then again they play double / triple the amount of games we play here in a year.

DADDY had this conversation yesterday. This is an interesting animal because 90 percent of teams only want to field ten or eleven because of playing time. Now lets put this into play what if tournaments would change their formats instead of four game garentee with three timed meaningless pool games and a single elimination bracket on Sunday with timed bracket games then a seven inning Championship game, to an Olympic format that includes three or four meaningfull seven inning pool games. Then the winners of each pool goes to a single elimination four team bracket that all games are seven innings. Then DADDY would say teams would be forced to carry 13 to 15 players, have a legitimate manager and two or three asistants not your run of the mill dad that wants to take a team because his kid cant play because of her bad play and limited ability.

Thats great info. The Championship game situation came up last year my girls were dead during that game and to have an extra runner oor evan abat would be great. Just don't want the greif of my kids not getting to play. What about saving your kids during pool play because its meaningless.

That great info Dice. We had the Chamionship game last year that was a full 7 inngs with 10U and my girls were dead. It would be better to play the other format or not play your good players in meaningless pool play. Not your run of the mill Dad.

In years past, the biggest concern of coaches seemed to be in getting games/playing time. Therefore, pool play 0f 3 to 4 games was popular. Pool play wasn't and still isn't meaningless with pool play results being used for seeding into the single elim phase. Games were on a time limit and ITBs were used to break ties. Over the last 2 to 3 years, TDs have not played pool play games to full conclusion because of what you have discussed above, i.e., just how important is the pool play game if the winner is based on the elimination round.

From previous discussion on OFC, games/playing tie is still very important, but this year lots of tournaments are going to 2 pool play games followed by double elim, with longer time limits. This is going to mean the players will be as tired and maybe more tired than in previous years, especially if they make a run back up thru the loser's bracket.

I know this doesn't answer the question of how many players--- I hope it causes some discussion on just how much coaches and parents should expect of 10 and 12U players, especially when they are worn down. I don't know if it is statistically true, but it seems to me the more tired players are, the more susceptible they are to mental mistakes and errors and injuries. If you know what you are expecting, I think that will help toqwards deciding how many players.
