Just spent the day at the Cincy Static Hitting Clinic with Howard. WOW! Everybody was so impressed. He doesn't just tell you this is how to do it, he demonstrates and proves why you should. It was like 6 hours long and the girls could have kept going, he had them into it. Everyone improved today, by a leap. Even in area's I never expected at a hitting clinic. If you can get to one of Howard's clinic, it would be time and money very well spent. DD asked if we could find his next one and attend. Heck yeah. Thanks Howard! :) :) :) :)

Just to state what Kirk Posted. As an instructor in the Bustos clinics. 90% of the girls we get should go thru the Intro. Unless you have been thru a Bustos clinic, Worked with Howard , work with a coach or a hitting instructor that teaches RVP, Or have been to some WSU clinics, you will not be able to do the advanced drills. You must have the foundation of the swing down before you can progress. I had four high school Juniors that all played travel ball and high school during our Fall Clinic. All should be in the Intro. Read the post above about the Static camp. This is an intro session and see how much they learned.

Thank you to the Static Family and Friends that attended and helped make this happen...94 plus kids is a lot to accomplish in less than 6 hours.

You heard me make the statement several times yesterday that we try to lay a foundation for the hitters to learn from and that is why the handout was given to you so you can refer back to it as a guide. Unless you were there the handout may not make as much sense however as it does not have all the pieces to the puzzle in it.

Some thought teaching how to throw was going to be a waste of time as we heard parents say their daughters already knew how to throw! And then at lunch you could not believe how poorly they threw and how much better it was and no ones shoulder or elbow was hurting them like it was before! It opened the parents eyes a lot!

In our opinion we try to lay that foundation first and build on it from there so possibly some of your daughters may or may not have as much experience as you may think in our opinion and we know you may differ from what we think and you believe...we will work through it and hopefully you will see it yourself.

There was a parent there with a daughter who has had ACL issues and she was complaining about her knee was hurting. After watching her take a few cuts I widened her stance a little more and do what is termed an inward turn so more weight would be on the inside of her back leg so she would not squish the bug and she smiled and said that doesn't hurt and it feels more powerful. The dad and daughter stopped by after the clinic and thanked us and commented I can see why you say you are trying to lay a foundation and can not teach it all in one session.

Howard, your time, efforts, and communication to everyone on OFC is appreciated. The Static folks are pumped up!!! Super positive experience for all!

I would recommend going to more than just one event held by Howard. He is right, this "system" takes practice and dedication and Howard only being one man can only do his part. We had girls on our 10U team that have been to several clinics of his now and they are showing true growth.

We had lots of help from other organizations to help the girls and we can't thank them enough either. The folks with Bustos Ultimates, the Cincy Storm, Pete from SWOBATS, Tim and his DD, Gerry and his DD, Heather from ECHS, Gary, Mary, and I'm sure I forgot someone. Even as competitors we all helped each other. THANKS TO YOU FROM our entire Organization and attendees!!

Thanks so much to Howard Carrier for putting on such a wonderful clinic Sunday. Every player and coach in attendance is better for being there...I know I am! My players thoroughly enjoyed it and we all learned ALOT! Howard is blessed with the ability to speak about some pretty technical things at a level that these girls and us coaches can really understand. He breaks things down in such detail and then he demonstrates and proves his techniques and why they work through easily observable drills and demonstrations displayed by random people he picks from the crowd. He took a parent out of the crowd Sunday who just so happens to be a coach in a league that I preside over. His daughter is a 10U pitcher and this guy is generally VERY skeptical by nature...hes a k-9 cop...lol. Anyway, he called me after the clinic and said...WOW! You dont want to miss an opportunity to attend one of Howards clinics. He is a wonderful clinician!!!

Howard,

As Les, Sonny, & Tom B. mentioned above, we can never repay you for what you have given our girls - a true hitting foundation that will make them outstanding hitters. You amaze everyone you come in contact with especially the players. I can not thank you enough for what you have taught me (& Kherrin) over the last year & look forward to learning & applying more.

You are a special person & we are all so lucky to have a chance to learn from you. Thanks again from the whole Static family & let us know if you ever need anything.

I can?t thank Howard enough for all he has done for us. We are blessed to have him as a friend, instructor and supporter of my daughter and the Static Organization.

If Howard is going to be in Columbus do not miss this opportunity. Come with an open mind (your eyes will soon be wide open), have patience and a camera you will become a better coach or player.

Sunday I saw Howard?s son Kenny working with a girl after the 5 hour clinic was over. He was helping her throw and explaining it again. All I can say is wow.

Thank you Howard & Kenny Carrier, .Mary Ellen Bonner, Tom & Erika Lee, Tim & Britt Duncan, Pete Spoerl, Gary Davis and Gerry & Casey Berling. They all gave up their entire Sunday for us and we appreciate it.

Another clarification. The coaches session is definitely open to non-coaching parents that want to learn from the best & assist with their DD's development. After all, they are your DD's & you all have the most opportunity to work with them. This session will certainly help ensure that your time is spent teaching/reinforcing the correct fundamentals.

Thanks for all the kind words.

Being at the clinic, I can say the static is a class org. Rob and all the coaching staff are a great bunch of guys.

Casey enjoyed demonstrating for kenny and helping the girls out.

I always learn something being around Howard.

To get a full understanding of this swing I would reccommend at least 2 - 3 clinics. Inform someone in charge that it is your 2 or 3rd clinic and get in a group of more advanced drills.
You will see it all starting to come together.

I'm a bit confused. Firstly, the RVP engine is comparative analysis software. The instruction series that can be purchased separately and can be used as stand alone or with the analysis software are not new tehniques only available with RVP. They are skills and instruction that can be found in past videos that have been available for purchase hosted by Candrea, Enquist, etc.

Secondly, the criteria quoted above might not be the only individuals or places to learn the "elite swing". There might be instructors out there that emulate Candrea and/or Enquist, but do not own the RVP system, just their other DVDs. My guess is that there are hitters out there that do not meet your criteria but would do just fine in the advanced drills portion of the clinic.

Wouldn't a better option to determine who passes through to the advanced hitting drills portion be judged soley by swing analysis by a panel of experts on hitting that will be at the clinic, like Howard and Crystl? Just a thought......

I think I covered what you are saying above. A coach or an instructor that works with RVP. The new two hour Softball section That Mike and Sue go into detail covers the elite swing, it works well with the Analysis section. The problem is , if you are using older versions you are not up to date with what Howard is now teaching. Don Slaught has come up with some new ideas, that Howard is teaching that you don't find on the new RVP softball. Two that I can list for you are Grip and Stepping into the Bucket. Howard has the advantage of getting ideas and testing from Don and others, before they are released ..
I ask at every Clinic when I'm working as an instructor , who has been to what Camp/clinc and who has a hitting coach. My opinion, from what I have found out, few actually teach or cover what Howard teaches. So as posted by many above you need to go to more than one clinic to learn the foundation. I have been to more than I can count on two hands of hitting clinics by colleges. They say they teach the Elite swing, but very few do. I also work with Howard, so I'm very aware of what he teaches. I'm sure you are aware of that from my prior posts.

I'll jump in here. I have had one parent send me a link to Youtube to see their DD's swing. IMO, she had a pretty darn good swing. Hands appeared to stay inside the ball, there was a nice weight shift, she didn't squish the bug, I could see elbow above the hands, hands above the barrel/ball, etc. If she is selected for the advanced session, I recommended that she also attend the intro session since she has never been to a Bustos/Carrier clinic. I think it would be well worth it so she could see how Howard/Crystl teach the fundamentals.

If anybody else has video of their DD's swing, send it on. We will look at it.

Great idea Kirk. I have two girls that I suggested this two. One is a Jr in College that was an excellent hitter for the Lasers, and the other is a new student of mine, that came from an Elite Team in Chicago . She has been to many softball camps and clinics in that area and has a great swing.

At the Static clinic last weekend I brought some bats to try out...

Michelle Smith Rip Its, Mizuno Freenzy, Louisville Slugger Triton, Demarini.

I have been asked if we will bring them to this clinic and the answer is yes.

We let the hitters use the bats we have including Crystl's personal bat.

I am trying to get a couple of the Combat bats also to bring to the clinic.

It is very interesting to watch the kids swing end loaded bats verses balanced bats. The bat drag is quite evident with the end loaded bats and by the time the clinic is over with they can handle the end loaded bats because they have improved their hand path and linear weight shift techniques in my opinion.

We worked with one of the dads at the Static clinic to understand the difference in bat lag verses drag and it was fun to see him get it and say now I understand what their coach was saying as I can feel the difference now myself.

Kirk

According to the criteria posted above, she will not be selected for the advanced session due to her lack of RVP and/or RVP based clinic exposure.
