Gerry, baseball was how it got started and soft ball came into the fold in 1996 and just kept growing after Ken went to college....

The 2009 Central Ohio Crystl Bustos Softball Clinic, sponsored by the Central Ohio Ice, is coming to Westerville. The clinic will feature 3-time Olympian & '08 ASA Player of the Year Crystl Bustos and hitting guru Howard Carrier.

Dates: Saturday & Sunday, February 28 & March 1, 2009

Location: Westerville Central High School

Saturday
Coaches Clinic, 8 am-12 pm, $70
Fielding, 1-5 pm, $70 (75 max)

Sunday
Intro to Hitting, 8 am-12 pm, $70 (60 max)
Advanced Hitting, 1-5 pm, $70 (30 max, application required)

The coaches clinic will start in a classroom setting and then progress to the gym with Crystl & Howard running players through full drills in a mock practice so coaches can see everything in action 1st hand.

Entry into the advanced hitting session will involve completing a short application focusing on experience level. The goal here is to select up to 30 players with more experience to work on some of Crystl & Howard's more advanced techniques.

The entry form & the application form for the advanced hitting session will be posted shortly.

I went to The WSU clinic Saturday and several people told me they were coming to Columbus for your clinic.

Coach B and his staff did an excellent job with his players and staff running the stations. It was interesting to hear the comments from the parents on the knowledge he and the players have about hitting and how they were able to relate to the kids.

While at the WSU clinic one of the parents ask why the coaches do not teach what we are teaching at the clinics as it seems very simple and easy to implement.

I do not remember the little curly headed blond girls name however at the end of the clinic she came and thanked me and said my mom is getting me signed up for the clinic in Columbus...I hope more of the coaches come and keep an open mind as this is not that difficult to learn....laying a foundation is very important and it starts with something as simple as balance.

Howard, you'll like this... I had 2 parents contact me today after our practice and say... "Wow, when the girls apply the techniques, you can "hear" the difference". And, because your clinic style is to bring the "people" up front and personal they get a feel for what to say at home when they practice.

My players are super happy in continuing the "hand path" program that is taught by this group and we will continue to work it.

Thanks for the feed back....It still surprises us to hear some coaches are having the players flatten their bats to make them quicker or making them keep the bats level or keeping the elbow in real close to the body.

It starts with balance and many of the coaches just skip that part...I really would like to see the coaches clinic fill up completely! Come and challenge us and what we teach and see if you have a better way to do it or teach it....that is how we learn and keep trying to improve.

I really was hoping a few of the coaches would have signed up to take lessons from Crystl one on one however it did not happen....that would have made my day complete!

Have some high school coaches coming from my area, that are still waitng for the AD to pay /approve the trip. So you should see some more coaches as time gets closer.

I hope Crystl gets the chance to hit a few while we are there. It blows me away every time I see it--much better than watching on television. I always feel sorry for the person feeding the machine.
