Ask your dd's for us

Since some of the threads lately have focused on why some states are better then Ohio and why some teams are better then others. A state or team will not be better then others without SELF motivated kids. I was talking to straightleg today, and he thought this would make a good topic. I would love for the Dads of the motivated dd's, to ask their daughters to respond to this one simple question.
Why or what makes you so motivated to practice softball instead of getting on facebook( sorry little shot at my dd's) or the cell phone or generally just sitting around. Are you this motivated in all aspects of your life, especially academics?
I would really love to hear from the girl's not just the dads or moms. I know to have a motivated dd also takes a motivated parent. I would be at the fields or wherever seven days a week if that was what my dd's wanted. I have finally gotten to the point when I ask them, do you want to practice and when the answers no, I just go and do my yard work. Kills me but I'm getting better at just letting it go. Thanks girl's for your time.

I asked my 11 year old and she said she just wants to be better than everyone else. That and she likes to hang out with the girls that are on her team.

I asked my 10U daughter this and this was her response-

1) Why do you love softball? "Because I loves the challenge and this is a challenge for me"

2) What is more important grades or softball? Her initial response was softball. I asked why and she told me that grades don't effect softball. I told her but grades effects her college. So, she rolled her eyes and said grades. Shre does get it, she has a 3.66 GPA right now. She had 6 A's and 2 B's. However an A- is like 3.75 and not 4.0.

3) Why do you think teams in the west and south are better than Ohio? Her response- you're nuts, we are just as good.

4) Why do you think that? What do you think you need to be as good as this teams? Question part A-"If you practice then you will be just as good." Question b is answered like this- "Practicing right." How? "Practice the right mechanics daily, have the right attitude. Softball is life, forget the other sports."

This is from a 10U dd. Her goal to play for the U of Arizona, and we have contacted them. They have given us all of the information we need. She loves the sport. She refuses to play any other sport. To me, this is what is needed to get Ohio on the map. We need to continue to have teams like the Elyria Sundogs to step up and deliver.

What a way to make a 100th post.

I just asked my dd the question. Her answer is:

"Because I love the game and have the desire to be the best that I can be."

ps Jessica.....never start a sentence with the word "because".....

My 13 y.o dd said she does it because she loves the game and she wants to be the best. Her motto is "Never be satisfied" because there is always someone behind you working hard to take your spot.

My DD is having an issue with her pitching mechanics while learning the rise. I can hear her upstairs right now going through her motion in front of her mirror after pitching 3 pretty good innnings today against a very good team and I did not say a word to her. That is pretty cool.

My DD is in her room studying her signs. I'd like to say it is out of dedication but I am sure it is because her coach told the team they are going to have a test on the signs at practice tomorrow.

I would't expect anything less from her John. She is a true gamer and strives for perfection.

My dd says: To be the best. Not just softball by a long shot. 4.0 GPA, so she takes school even more serious. Didn't go out for volleyball this year to dedicate all her time to both. Ohio State camp Sunday, she taken around 500 swings in the cage this week. Plus soft toss in the basement 3 nights. Wanting to attend the Air Force Academy. Wish I would of had her motivation at 14. lol

I see a lot of motivated 12 and younger kids were asked this question.
Wait until they turn 16 and start to drive and date and all that fun stuff.
Then see how many are motivated for softball.
My daughter will be 18 in 2 months.
Is she motivated, I don't know.
She does her swings pretty much every day.
Some days I have to get on her some days I don't.
But she knows her bat got her a pretty good scholarship to a D1 school with a good up and coming program.
And she knows to make it her routine now because next fall it will definately be in her routine at college.
But you can also tell that the motivation drops off as they get older because the number of teams drop off as you get to 16u and 18u.

Good luck keeping your kids motivated.
I have found out the funner you make it the longer they will stick around and play.
Remember it is just a game

And I like Markal of the lasers post
You will get a boat load more money for grades then you will ever get for your softball skills.
That is where the true motivation belongs

Bingo

I remember when my girls were a lot more motivated (10u, 12u, 14u,)
Now they shop for prom dresses 5 months early
Spring court dresses

I've spent years trying to teach them not to be a girl ( throwing, running, ect.) Oh well 4.0,3.8 gpa. They'll be ok

As I read these posts I remember back to when my daughter was young. When she was playing softball she had goals of going to Arizona or Tenn. and was a hard worker when it came to practice. Now since getting out of the Marine Corps. she is looking for a job and concidering going back to school. Keep this in mind as you watch them grow up, it's more about getting a good education and becoming a good young adult. Softball will pay for college but, in most cases, it will not provide for you the rest of your life. Enjoy this time while you can and cherrish the memories and friends you will make along the way. God bless
