My DD will be at qdsn and will be in the cage portion. She is a freshman at Franklin hts in columbus and plays travel for the 14U lady vipers. She is very excited about the cage format!

My DD will be there as a freshman pitcher also. Lefty plays for Ohio Blast - Miokoivc. She was down at South Carolina as First Base, so she is really exicited about being a pitcher this time; coaches get to see both positions

My DD is a junior and plays for Buckeye Heat 18U, she will be at the QDSN but not in the cage. Unless I got the wrong impression from the discription, she felt the regular format would showcase her arm better. She is a catcher with a really good arm and didn't feel like the cage would let her show off that portion of her game. Hope it wasn't the wrong choice, sure sounds like thats where all the coaches hang out!

My understanding is that the cages are where the top pitchers, catchers and hitters want to be. They play the games but they are also showcased in this format. I talked to a few pitchers from years past and many of the MVPs have been cage pitchers and catchers

The pitchers in the cages get A LOT of views from the coaches. They rotate pretty quickly in and out and throw a ton of pitches. Same goes for the hitters, they see a ton of pitches and typically get more at bats than in the games. I will say, it does depend upon how the umps in the cages move the batters through. There have been inconsistancies at times between what the umps were doing from cage to cage. As far as the catchers, I guess it's a 50/50 kind of thing....you are right they don't see you throw down, but they get to see your catching skills close up, and for a longer period of time. Bottomline, the cages are "hot"....definitely a good place to be.

If it is like last year, pitchers will play in games and rotate into the cage. Coaches that are interested will follow the pitcher/player where ever they go. DD participated last year....did the 3 clinics with Kent State and then played one or two games in the evening. She was whipped at the end, but it was definitely worth it. The first pitching session at KSU was very good with about 30 coaches in attendance in the middle and many others watching on the outside. The coaches interested follow her through the games and into the cage. Can't go wrong with either one, but I wouldn't skip the KSU pitching portion if you are a pitcher.
Smiller....I agree with you. Games for catchers, cages for pitchers and hitters.

Do your homework before and interested coaches will watch you in both venues.

I can say from my daughters experience last year in the QDS, she would not do it again. The KSU pitching portion before the showcase was far better for her then pitching in the cages. It depends on the umps you get, my DD got to face 5 hitters pitching in the cage and got 1 at bat. The umps did not stick to to format that they were suppost to and my DD probably threw 20-25 pitches to 1 or 2 of the hitters. Not trying to brag, but the hitters could not hit her and the umps kinda felt bad for them, so they kept making her pitch to the same hitters over and over, it wasn't fair to anybody. Then I hear that other cage games, kids got 4 or 5 at bats, and pitchers got to pitch to a full lineup at least 2 times.

In the games, the pitchers got to start with a one ball one strike count, this was a huge advantage to the pitcher. While my DD did have a good time, and met a lot of new people, for the money, it was not worth it.

With everything she had to go through to get selected to participate in this showcase, I would have thought the talent level would have been over the top. While the talent level was good, it was not even close to the level of talent we played this past summer with her travel schedule. Now I am sure a lot of people have different opinions of how it went for them, this was our experience at the 2010 Queen of Diamonds Showcase North last year.

If you are a pitcher, do not miss the opportunity to do the Kent Pitching Showcase before the tournament. Good luck to all at the QDS and I am sure many people had a better experience then we had, while my DD did enjoy it, it was not worth the money we spent.....again this is all based on our experience. Good Luck to All.

I agree , with hotel, gas food, kent state and qdsn it was 500 dollars for 2 games and 5 at bats at the best. Its designed for pitchers and catchers. Not saying you wont recieve attention from it but for the dollar amount you spend you can do a load of camps at the colleges your interested in'

Kent State is defiantly worth it though, a ton of coaches there evaluating, once games get going especially on sun the coaches for the most part are heading home.

Its worth experiencing it once if nothing else to get the kids used to the gold fish in the bowl effect.

The KSU pitching camp gives your pitcher a ton of exposure...a TON! Agree with Bouldersdad, after 3 years of playing the QDSN, $100 per at bat seems a bit pricey...! And have only seen a handful of 60+ mph pitches in those three years....

My kid will be there at both Kent State and Queen of Diamonds. Thanks goodness the Steelers have a bye - I would have been multi-tasking. Now I can just bust chops with some of you OFC'rs
