Why all the chest pumping

For some odd reason, I'd rather look at the scores from the Beaver Cleaver Memorial podunk tournament than spend 10 seconds reading a headline that says Senegal 1, Bolivia 1 in an EXCITING matchup at the so-called worlds greatest sporting event.

Did my cousin Beaver have a tournament over Memorial Day weekend and I didn't know about it ?

Agreed.....

My dd will be at the pitchers and catchers camp (7/21-7/24) where your dd plays. Does she have to work the camp or does she get a pass for this one?

Len
She should be working the camp, but.....;& Said she really enjoyed the girls at the last one, and actually went to a couple of their games to make sure they could apply what they were learning. Wonder which side of the plate she'll be helping with - played both in HS. Tell her that you'll be sending reports back to me, that reaction should be priceless.:lmao:

All coaches and parents need to start pumping up the players instead of their own egos.
Coaches and parents need to remember that the girls are the ones with the talent not them. Yes coaches do help in the perfection process but they don?t make the player.
A good coach at the end of the game win or lose should always praise the players for their hard work and great plays. At these age groups it?s all about confidence building and when coaches boost their own egos it takes away from the ones who really deserve the praise the players.
Coaches good rule of thumb: treat each of these girls as you would want someone to treat your own daughter.

The younger teams (10U & 12U) recruit, advertise, call it what you want, by saying we are the greatest, we beat everyione, so on and so forth.

The older 14's and up realize that it is about getting recruited. Mom and Dad are excited about this because their DD can advance to the next level and that it has great possibilities of lessening the amount of money that they have to pay for college.

Personally, I think that if the younger teams spent more time on developing their players, a bigger group from that age group would stay interested and advance with a better possibility of getting recruited. But sadly, parents with egos have to get involved. There are coaches out there who get greater satisfaction out of seeing their players advance instead of seeing how many games they can win. We just have to get more of them.

I actually wish more teams would post results, good and bad. I just want to see how everyone is doing against each other. We can't all be at every tournament with every team every weekend so unless people post how they are doing it is tough to find out. I try to get on and post results of every game we play, win or lose.

I agree.........what's the big deal? As long as they are posting it in the correct section, why complain? Otherwise these sections of the forum will go to waste and you won't have anything to complain about.

Let the teams, young or old, post their wins and losses. These ladies are putting in a lot of work and should be recognized.

What percentage of travel players are playing for the sole or main purpose of getting recruited into college? I wouldn't think that number would be very big. Am I wrong? I thought most play for fun (winning) with no real expectations or thoughts of getting recruited.

I usually just cruise right on by those post but I will have to say I was very impressed by the post made in the ASA States thread. The amount of post complimenting other teams players and coaches was great to see. Coaches would be speaking proudly of how their team came together that weekend and in the same breath, giving props to other teams. I really enjoyed reading that thread and my dd's didn't even play there.

My favorites are the ones who play in a tournament where the field shows they absolutely should win and then when they do the post about going 7-o and outscoring their opponents 196-3. I always scratch my head and think I can't believe you gave up 3 runs, LOL

:lmao: Will do.

I think it's great that she attended some games....it proves her passion for the sport and for teaching.

My dd won't be hard to miss.....she'll be the lefty.

Lets take a poll, who do you think is the best left handed beverage holding, soft chair setting, hiding under the umberella softball watching parent of my daughter out there, ( sitting in my chair to be exact )?

Is that what you are talking about? lol

It really is fun to just sit back and watch. After the rookie parents get a little "seasoned", they calm down quite a bit. Then they start to enjoy each bite of their walking tacos, instead of just wolfing it down!

NICE! A metaphor-- good one Sammy! An "A" for you on the English final exam haha

I hear you there... makes me wonder what the right mix of teams for a tourney is... we have been playing some tough 12u teams (top 10 every week) at the USA/ASA Metro, ASA States, Lasers, Stingrays and then GAPSS .. girls are playing well as an 11u team but I can tell they don't have the same fire as when they really feel like they have a legit opportunity to win it.

We stopped at a tourney on the way home from ASA State on Sunday to watch some 12u games and our girls were stunned to see the difference in teams and games between that and the tourney they were just in. Our goal is to go .500 through this stretch and grow as team ... now that I look back, maybe we should have lessened the schedule ... still learning - and preparing for next season as a true 12u team. Probably should have had a better mix of tourney's and gave the kids a break in between the meat grinders...
