Should coaches impose a curfew?

Said player can eat all the pizza she wants, ignore instructions of what time to go to bed, walking tacos, whatever and it will not affect her game....since she should be in the dugout!

The parents meetings were a staple for us the past few years as well!! :)

Had some excuse, but this is the girl whose parent has a problem with not only me dictating bed time during tournament, but telling them they cannot eat pizza and chicken wings for lunch before our next game. So new question - should a coach dictate nutrition and diet during the season and esp during tournament? I mean I think I know the answer, I thought I knew the answer for years, and now I have people telling me I have no right to tell their kid what she can and cannot eat.

For most part, I believe a coach should, with-in limits. If you were my dd's coach and told me no pizza and wings before a game or late at night, I'd understand. They would be sluggish the next day. However, at 5 pm and there's nothing going on until 8 am, then maybe another story. I guess it depends on the amount.

Hey Herbie53,

Are you serious, first of all?

If you are looking, then what area of Ohio are you in and what age level?

If you are not really looking, then you can give me a big ol' "Gotcha"

:)Thanks!!!

Oh Yeah, and I'd be happy to try out for your teams!;)

Herbie53 - I don't personally have a team.. but if I did.. you'd be my first player on the roster.

If I was a coach, taking the time to put effort into a team that wants to win... if parents want to put input into the "team" - find another would be my answer.

There is no doubt.. I wouldn't coach if my effort to do so is being "jepordised" by a couple kids and/or parents. I have the other kids to think about and not just "their" kids. We came as a team and we win and lose as a team. "Their" individualists thought .. would by next weekend.. be finding another team.

I guarentee you that !!!!!

And sporteecompete, No "gotcha" here, I am actually trying to find a team. I live in NE Ohio, play pitcher, UT and am a 15U. Wow I never thought I'd be posting that on this thread.:)

DD played 18U this year & had a curfew the night before games every time. Sometimes it was set by the coach & sometimes by me. Didn't matter if we were at a hotel or at home, if she played early, she had a curfew. Never heard a single peep about it all summer. In fact, at Nationals, she was showered & asleep by 8:30 pm when they had the 8:00 am game the next day.

Herbie53... good luck finding a team that will appreciate your views on "team".. especially at 15u. I'd take a whole team of you. I would.

I took a bunch of boys one year that nobody else wanted.. I was 16 years old.. called my brothers and cousins and asked them to help... first half of the season was rough... the second half we finally got the kids to "believe in themselves" and took no quarter from the teams who laughed at us during the first half of the season.

We beat them mercilessly !!! Had coaches calling the league head rep asking that our rosters be checked...LOL Same players.. never added one player all season.

There is no doubt it was a whole "new team".. not in players but in attitude and spirit.

I don't know how some of these coaches even coach a team sometimes with the attitudes of these parents. Some parents and sadly to say their DD, wouldn't last a tournament on my team.

I want a team of 14 girls with attitudes. Attitudes that we are here to win together and lose together and better ourselves to be able to win together.

Now what would you want as a coach?

That is one awesome story!!!!

Your right about teams though, you have to play as a team to win as a team, sometimes all star teams that are made up of "individuals" get there butts handed to them by the teams that are just that...a honest to God team. And parents, as well as players, have to realize that most of the time, what a coach is doing, he is doing for the good of the whole entire TEAM. After all softball is a team sport.:)

To tell you the truth no one has ever asked me that question, but now that I think about it, having a coach that believes in me as a player and the girls as a team is one of the attributes I have always looked for in a coach. My pitching coach and dad have always talked about believing in yourself as being a key to success, but I think that in order to win a coach has to believe in the talent of his/her own players before you can go any where. Also I want a coach that's in it for the girls, not furthering their coaching resume, but just a coach that can teach the team, help the team get better at practice, and then let them loose when they get to the field to play their hearts out. I have to say that would be my dream coach someone that believes in me and can help me get better.

p.s. I'd also like someone that's positive, I can't stand coaches that scream at their girls while their on the field. I don't care how much their messing up, yelling is not acceptable. Talk about it at practice.

She is isn't she?

Herbie53.. have you had about 20 coaches call you yet ? :lmao:

I bet you'll have a few after reading this thread. :D

I'd love to have about 14 of you and two years to work with all the players ( keeping the same player both years ) providing clinic time, etc....

I had people ask me why I don't coach a team...LOL

Heck, I P*** off other TD's in this state because I have diamonds and availability and knowledge it takes to get one up and going again. Give out the best prizes in the state. Not worried about my pocketbook. ( Believe me, they call the OFC people all the time about me..LOL) Big candy butts. Get your hand out of the candy jar and give back to the girls is my motto...:lmao: and put some diamond dry down on your special dirt that isn't worth a rat's butt when it rain. Special dirt. Please, give me a break. But teams love playing at this special dirt place...LOL.. until it rains and their motel money is GONE !!!!

Might as well coach a team....

Hey, I'd come play for that team!!!:yahoo:

Take 15u girls and have 14 of them giving me a two year commitment and no switching teams, etc... play together for two years and bond as one....attitude wise we'd be unstoppable in our third year !!!! LOL

It's all about team and believing and hard work. Bottom line.. is hard work.

Maybe in 2012... if I can raise some money through tournaments this coming year...LOL
