12U Slammers best in Ohio history?

I have not seen this team play yet, but I hope to see them before the summer's out.

One thing's for sure - when you are a very good competitive team, you tend to be put on a pedestal with a target on your back. Regardless of the age, great athletes feed on this and take on the challenge to be their best. IMO, burnout generally comes from a parent pushing a kid to do something that they really don't have their heart into. Some kids just love to play, but not because mom & dad endlessly pushed them.

I don't know anyone involved with this team (at least I don't think I do), but I think it's great that the opportunity is there for them. Keep everything in perspective, be humble and continure to excel in your play on the field!

too funny, "at 12 she is already turning into a girl" i know you didn't mean it, but it sounds like she shed a layer of skin like a snake and presto! girl..but i wont mock that much, my DD is 14 and well into her girlishness...between IM, myspace and going to the pool, I'm ready to kill all boys!

as for the best in the history of Ohio...well, come ask me again when the OFC is another 10 years in the running, then we'll see

Statman that is almost what it is like. The change is that dramatic and almost that quick. We talking since Easter of this year. I do believe that a certain b-b-b-boy is involved in this change. She even brushes and CURLS her hair now. For 12 years is has been I don't care leave it alone and can't I just wear boys shorts. She has started to IM but so far no myspace-whew-and no pool just tanning in the backyard.

Dads, you know you are in trouble when that broad line of "sunglare black" lining the cheeks at 10u gives way to a thinner line of black around the the eyes at 12u (think it is called "mascara" or "eye liner" or something like that???). >:( :(

Kids do need some "space" to be kids, along with some balance. You are not going to be good at anything for too long if you are not the one choosing to be there, and truly enjoying it. Some kids do seem to want to be playing ball around the clock though, that is great if that is the case.

Having seen the Slammers numerous times, there is no disputing their high level of play. Just so hard to make "all time" comparisons, like comparing Ruth to Aaron to Bonds - competition in the eras, pitching, equipment (the bats & balls), training regimen (Ruth's versus Bonds' ::)), etc. I thought the Buckeyes were on their way and had a chance to be considered among the greatest collegiate teams ever last year on the gridiron, but a lot changed on 1/8. >:(

this is severly off topic but oh well...her first wish as a 14 was to ask to go on a "date" i ran upstairs and cried myself to sleep (j/k, but dads get my point!)

as for being back on-topic......

I'm hearing lots of "what about indoor games and what-nots" so, the debate ,and national tourneys here and abroad, have yet to be considered....but, yes, they sound (havent seen them play, but i did get a look last year--pretty impressive)...

the debate rages on...
geez, where's bigtrain when you need em

Brute, You mean to tell me that softball players fall madly in love at 15-17 just like the rest of the teenage world??? And they want a car, too? Heck if I could make it that far with my dd I would be happy. At 12 she is already turning into a girl.....I thought I had it easy she wouldn't be caught dead in pink ever not even as a toddler and now she is buying pink and wanting to get her nails done. What's next dresses? I don't think I can take it. Haha.

The Slammers swept ASA regional NQ, Compuware, and Orland Park Sparks Invitational in the same season. 55-0 so far. (31-0 in 12U and 24-0 in 14U). 8 tournaments and 8 championships in top level events with 3 titles in 14U averaging 10 runs per game with probally the most prolific offense at this age. Multiple players already on college watch lists with girls having unofficial visits to Northwestern, Ohio State, Michigan, and Notre Dame. :) ;D

WHAT?? Is this really a question or just another look at me Mommy post .. if it is a question .. then WHAT ??

Man O Man this post is painful to read ---I spent quite a bit of time explaining to my DD why it was not acceptable to play tackle football with the guys inbetween games at the fields this past weekend. She said "but Dad , there are not bigger than me" and "I won't hurt em" " Now your telling me it can change , and propably will ??? Pass the Prozac ! ;D ;D ;D MD

Celebrate your success and remain part of the bigger softball community! Instead of seperating yourselves as "the best team in Ohio History"...celebrate the entire fastpitch community and the strides that have been made for female athletes, and the increase in talent across the board.

Congratulations on a great team!

Watched the Slammers at Compuware. Very good team!!
Remember they are young girls and make mistakes, too.
Several other teams could have been comparable without the intimidation of "oh no we are playing the Slammers" :-[
Very good pitcher and excellent hitting.
Give credit where credit is due, but let's not go overboard.
Too much pressure on these young girls.
"When it's no longer fun, we're done!!"

I saw Bigtrain at Michigan's camp and he sends his best to all the Slammers fans. He said he's been too busy with Hutch lately to deal with OFP. ;D

hockeybuckeye... Bigtrain must be on the recruiting tour to U of M with the Slammers. Matter of fact I heard they took on the Wolves. The school up north had to hit a walk off HR in the bottom of the 7th to win 2-1. No wonder they are being recruited at such a young age.

Actually Bigtrain is on a first name basis with most every softball coach in the big ten and beyond! I was talking the other week with Gayle Blevins, head coach of softball at Iowa and Bigtrains real name came up and I assumed she had tried to recruit one of his daughters and asked how she knew him and she said "Oh, I used to play softball with his sister." Now doesn't that beat all?
