The 16U Doom has already qualified, as well as the Ashland Blaze.

The Buckeye Heat-Abraham team never had intentions of going to 18U Nationals this season, so don't expect them to enter.

Ohio Classics Black 16U has signed up and I haven't gotten any confirmation... I'm a little nervous.

first of all, I commend a team that does not pull out of a tournament at such short notice. ?I can't imagine the agony it puts the tournament directiors in trying to fill or readjust the tournament shedule.

but my question is....why in the world would OHIO ASA award a 4-6 team tournament 2 berths when tournaments drawing 20-30 teams are only being awarded 1 berth. ?doesn't seem fair and someone should rethink!!!!!!

What teams from Ohio have qualilfied for 16u and 18u?
I know Nightmare and Wolfpack are in from 16u,
Elyria and Ohio Attack from 18u.

Many teams, especially 16u with nationals in Kentucky, can go to Ashland an try for a bid
(in a smaller and less competitive field)!

16u teams left not in
Valley Extreme Blue
Lasers Aqua
OFC Heat
Miami Valley Express
Cincy Doom
Buckeye Heat 91
Akron Sapphires
Ohio Ice

all of the above teams are more than qualified and deserving to
go to ASA Nationals, why won't they try this last chance qualifier?

Same goes for these 18u teams
Grand Slam - this really is a shocker they are not entered
Cincy Tribe
Sunraze Black
Buckeye Heat Abraham
Central Ohio Lady Rebels
Valley Extreme Blue
Either Stingrays team (I know they have their tournament, but
a great chance to go to nationals)

Most of these teams are most likely ?at Stingrays this weekend.

To end all the speculation...here is the final list of teams. ?Tom says the times and complete bracket will be mailed on Thursday. ?

16U
Ohio Freeze
Laser Orange
Ohio Classic Black
Buckeye Heat-Toledo
Mad Dogs
Central Ohio Lady Rebels
Mid-Ohio Lady Bullets
Tri County Hurricanes Gold

18U
Miami Valley Vipers ?
Ohio Jaguars
Ohio Ice Black
Lasers Blue ?
Ohio Thunderbolts

Looks like alot of very good teams have given up on trying to qualify for Nationals.

Is this straight double elimination? I don't remember from the entry form and don't have it anymore.

Thanks!

Maybe they haven't given up - just honoring committments to other tournaments??

Cindercreek,
The "shame" is that the head of the ASA decided to award one birth to the 18U states with 31 teams entered and 2 births to this tournament with 5 teams entered. That is not only a shame but a joke.

Dave,
? ? I wonder how you would feel if teams pulled from your tournament at the last minute. Some teams obviously believe a committment is a committment.

The berths are ridiculous this year. Mr Jones has some explaining to do to the softball community. prreviously ASA was "the" sanctioned tourneys to attend - they don't seem much different from the others this year - is it all about the money???

All the teams knew the amount of bids. No one was holding them back to enter.

I do not know the reasoning behind it however our team decided to play this tournament.

I think it s a shame that at 16U there are at least 5-8 teams off the top of my head that could go to ASA Nationals and represent Ohio with dignity and there may only be 2-3 that get to go.

This is one way a couple more teams that should be there get there.

Acorn,

Look at the date of the post when Mr. Beckham's team withdrew. It is 4/30/08. It wasn't last minute. He gave the tournament plenty of time. Hopefully, other teams do the same when they withdraw from a tournament. Stingrays is a huge tournament with a waiting list of teams to get in it. I am sure a team filled the vacant spot. :)

When will the schedule be released? Since there are eight teams will there be any games on Friday? Would be nice to save some money on Hotel costs.

The fact is... we don't know how many berths are going to be given and where they are. There is extremely poor communication about this and no place to go and get a direct answer. Every weekend the rules seem to change and even up until two weekends ago I was not aware of another ASA 16U qualifier going on the same weekend as the one we were hosting. Its not just that I didn't know, half the teams at my tournament didn't know, and they came down from the district that the tournament was in.

My understanding is there are 2 berths being given at this tournament.

Just talked to TD - only ONE berth is being given now. ?Very disappointing that they changed their minds last minute.

Can someone please explain to me how they can change this the WEEK OF the tournament? All winter and spring it was 2 berths and now it's one. Doesn't seem right to me.

How mant bids did the ASA director give out last year at the different tournaments?

I heard it was 3 or 4 just at 16u States last year.

I do know 14U States in Defiance gave 3 to Nationals and one to Easterns.

There are an easy 6-8 teams that would represent Ohio well. 2 or 3 still do not have bids.

"Say it isn't so Joe say it isn't so" (Eight Men Out)

or should I say:

"Say it isn't so Jones say it isn't so"

Unbelievable!!!! This is just WRONG!!! Sounds like their upset that more teams didn't sign up. That's what happens when you schedule the same weekend as the Stingrays tournament. Therefore, they take it out on the teams that signed up for their tournament. This isn't right!!! I wonder if someone is going to step up and explain the reasoning behind this.
