In regards to the berths, it sure makes the ASA organization look bad. Maybe we will see a shift of what many consider to be the top organization. I could see NSA moving into the top spot if this keeps up. One berth at 18U states (31 teams) then to change the number of berths the week of the tourney is rediculous.

I heard a team dropped out of this tournament in the 18U now they are down to just four teams. I don't know the reason for the last minute pull out, but I don't blame them. Next thing you know we will play the tournament and they will award no bids.

The Ohio Jaguars were told that they were not allowed to play because we had already received our berth to nationals, we did not withdraw. ?

I told the TD that we were more than willing to play in the tournament but ASA rules prohibit us from doing so.

We were lucky to find a spot in a tournament in Binghamton, NY for this weekend due to a team dropping out.

They changed that rule last year. you can still play in a ASA qualifier and not give up the birth you already have. Check the rule book.

Who told you you could not play. They are wrong. I hope it was not Warren Jones

This tournament is a 3 GG, with no pool play. According to ASA Code Part 5 Article 511, girls JO fastpitch tournaments are not permitted to use this format. They must use 2 pool play games into a double elimination.

ASA Code Part 5 Article 513 (L)
Junior Olympic teams which have previously qualified for a National Championship Final may compete in other National Qualifiers. If a previously qualified team wins another National Qualifier, the highest finishing team without a berth will qualify.

The Nightmare played in our tournament and they had won berth at states. They knocked teams out of contention on their way to the final game. They were awarded co-champs with the Wolfpack because they had already earned a berth. There was no reason to complete that game when the rains came.... Warren told my ASA director that the Nightmare was allowed to play and not risk their berth.

one more double standard for the list....

btw I have not recieved anything in the mail or email from the TD of this tournament. NO SCHEDULE - NO RULES - NO CONFIRMATION that we are even in this thing. If it weren't for Marie I wouldn't know when we play.

and by looking at the schedule -they aren't 1 hour and 40 minute games either.... I had to change my tournament schedule to follow that format.

I just received an email from the TD that this will now be changed to a 2 pool play into a double elimination bracket. So I'm guessing we will be receiving new playing times.

Just talked to TD - only ONE berth is being given now. ?Very disappointing that they changed their minds last minute.

Can someone please explain to me how they can change this the WEEK OF the tournament? All winter and spring it was 2 berths and now it's one. ?Doesn't seem right to me. ?

After speaking with ASA Commissioner Warren Jones, just minutes ago, the tournament will be a 2 pool play into a DE bracket. ?
Warren was apologetic and took full resposibility for the mis-communication that has occured. ?TD Tom Williams was only following what he was being given from Warren, when it came to the format of the tourney.
I appreciate Warren and Tom for working so hard to correct this oversight, and I'm looking forward to a great weekend of softball.

Thats a good question??

I'm sure there will be some adjustments, hopefully nothing to drastic. ?I'm sure everyone will know when they get the new schedule fixed.
