Ah yes, last night was an adventure. Weather raised its ugly head. It was unfortunately because we were out at the Botetourt facility located approximately 20 miles away from Roanoke, which, incredibly, is even more impressive than the Moyer facility I described earlier. Built in 2007, it cost more than 4.3 million. But the amount of rain that we received just as our game with Ohio Ice Silver was to begin defeated that 4.3 million (though it was still amazing to see how quickly the fields actually began to drain after the deluge). The drain in our dugout worked fine during the downpour, but the poor Ice team was stuck in a dugout with a clogged drain and water got up to their calves. They were sending out SOS signals across the field.
So after both teams were rescued from their dugouts, the decision was made that the game originally scheduled for 6:00 pm would be moved 16 miles away for what was a 9:45 pm start. And just before play began the fog started to move in, so it was a really eerie setting. Buckeye Heat 95 jumped to a quick three run lead but couldn't score any more. BH95 pitcher and her defense held Ice to no runs until the bottom of the 7th, when Ice scored one and had two runners on. BH95 survived with a 3-1 win.
Weather looks good for today and things are back on schedule so we are off to play the winner's bracket finals against the Carolina Cardinals. More to come.
