Line drive shot right back to the pitcher. She catches the ball in her glove and simultaneously the glove falls off of her hand and hits the dirt, but the ball stays in the glove. What is the Call?

The plate Umpire ruled it as a catch, but I was to far away to hear his explanation for it.

That would be hard for me to make a call without visually seeing the play, but nevertheless any umpire's decision which involves judgement such whether a hit is fair or foul, whether a pitch is a strike or ball, a runner is safe or out, or whether a ball is caught or not. In establishing the validity of the catch, the fielder must prove she has control of the ball, in what I read the ball was prevented from hitting the ground by a player's equipment. I would probibly have called it a No Catch! But the Umpire in his/her judgement must have felt the fielder showed control prior to the glove being dislodged which resulted in an Out.

FASTPITCH! Anything else, And you're playing too SLOW!

Once the glove is off the hand it is regarded as detached equipment. It is IMPOSSIBLE for a valid catch to be made with detached equipment.

When the ball was in the glove and the glove was on the ground it was the same as the ball itself being on the ground. This is "NO CATCH" and a live ball- play on and get what you get!
