It doesn't matter the timing of the conversations that were held. Your rub is that one of the players left the team. Period.
All of the community rec teams used to complain (probably still do) that all of their players are getting 'taken' by travel ball. So now travel ball teams are complaining that other travel ball teams are stealing their players! Really??!!
Travel softball has evolved into this. It isn't going back. So anything goes. Don't blame the coach you feel is a snake. Don't blame the player for not being loyal. Don?t get upset with the timing of how it all unfolded. This is just how it is. So just field the team with the players that want to be there.

rec ball has it's place... just not for everyone. I know some rec coaches that are so good the kids would never leave. So, it's relative to the situation and how it fits the players/parents needs. Taken sounds like someone owns someone else. I understand your point though.

It is all the worse when a coach leaves an org and then jumps back and uses their contacts there to recruit players on other teams before the season ends for them... if you have a track record and reputation - that will draw players to you.. post your intent, your tryout dates and let them come to you... Les is right about one thing, ethics and integrity mean more than building a winner the wrong way ... once lost, those can never be re-captured.

I don't like it at all unless there was an injury and a real need for nationals. I think bringing in subs toward the end of the season to "get a look" is insulting to the current players and opens the coach up to some real problems. Just wait until your tryouts to do the evaluation!

Never during the season should the conversations take place. After the season and this time of year is Free Game for both sides via any means IE Phone,Facebook, email, youtube, Skywriting whatever....
