Hitting and Hitters Discussion Bunting tournament

I am considering a one day tournament here in Urbana Ohio on October 4.

The concept is bunting only. (no slapping)

You field 6 players only (infield no outfield)

Hit balls to the outfield is an out.

1st and 3rd must start no closer than halfway between base and home.

If you foul off 3rd strike it is a foul (keep bunting).

No force out at home if bases are loaded. Outs must be made at bases or caught flys.

If a player swings away it is an automatic out and base runners advance a base.

Tell me what you think of this concept. Will it Fly? Are you interested in attending?

Give me your input.

I dont know if we would be able to make it but I love the idea. Sounds like a fun day at the diamond and some work on the part of the game that people sometimes forget about.

all change-ups to be thrown or some other spin on the pitch? Like speigleme, sounds interesting and could be a fun day.

Sounds fun, but I don't know about paying $350 for bunting practice. Also, how can you make it a qualifier for a national tournament? Is that fair for the other teams attending an IFA national? Love the concept though.

Let them slap but keep the rule that if the ball reaches the grass it is an out. Straight bunting with out the threat of the ball hit by you or over you is easy to defend.

Sounds interesting and a little expensive.

It sounds good but no force at home? That is a scored run everytime from 3rd, good side is the catcher and runner will not be in harm at the plate with tag? Can plays still be made to prevent a run since it is a game of scoring runs? I like the idea of a bunting game.
Will all rules be modified? Stealing? If a slap is allowed you may need a floating player for chopped balls going into the grass.
Just a idea here....... a fence barrier 10 feet outside the infield making everything in play, this would make the rulings easy for the official to make and fair for all with a visual marker. This can be like the Slam Dunk in basketball with the modified setting, it may even grow into something nation wide if you set it up and promote it. I wouldn't mind testing out the game to see what can be modified or worked on, I know others would help test the concept as well.

I like the idea of some kind of barrier behind the bags. maybe 10 or 15 feet I can paint a line just like the foul line. I say stealing rule won't be modified. the force at home is a no brainier, the girls need to practice and be able to make plays at the bases. I guess I can allow slapping but the ball has to stay fair. (not go into the outfield) or it is an automatic out. Outfield line will be just like the foul line. if the ball rolls over the line it is an out

Cost. Umpires are $35 a game no matter the time. 5gg plus Uniforms (first place) trophies 2nd place, plus balls plus misc expenses.

What is a fair price for this.

I think it is an awesome idea! If you were closer to us I'd definately go. I think alot of teams don't utilize the bunt enough. I understand the price, you still have to run a tournament and have the same expenses.

John, what if the infield intentionally doesn't make a play on a slapped ball just to let it get to the outfield for the out?

It would be an out, just like letting a ball roll foul. The batter is taking a chance on that by slapping.

any ideas on prices for "tourney" since u technically would only need 6-8 players...is 350 a bit much?

I have an idea for a name, you can call it "Buntball".

Naturally, I get all royalties associated with copyrighting the name when Buntball leagues start forming across the nation.

Edit: I was kidding, of course, but it looks like someone has beaten me to the punch.

$350 for 5 games, I think is fair.

$35 an umpire x 15 games = $525
$4.50 a ball x 15 = $67.50
prizes and trophies $800.00
total =$1392.50

Misc expenses, Field rental, maintenance, chalk field crew
$200 to $300

entries 6 x $350 =$2100.00 (6 x $300 = $1800)

$100 to $400 profit

$350 is a fair price by my calculations

Might be a fair price but it's not a price that would get any takers from what I'm reading.

Trophy for each 6 player team?? If you field a team of only 6 that is almost $60 per player. I am not sure how many would go for that unless it is a TOP NOTCH event with high quality pay back. Average tournament cost break down starts at $35 per player for full roster, this is half that at twice the cost. Say if you make it $225.00 you will have takers for a 6 or 7 player roster. If your cost in tropies at $800 is correct for 6 players for top 3 teams you might want to double check the numbers and see if that is what you really want. The Higher the price goes the higher the quality expectations.
If you are pulling from the local community the price is High If your pulling nation wide or region it is fair because you will be having High Caliber players looking to make a name for themselves........ You have two ways to go. Since this is your first run at this idea which we all think is good you may want to test the waters then go big.

Trophys are and awards are based on 12 player teams. Uniforms are valued at $600 for all. then the cost of the trophies. I have already posted the tournament and said if a team wants to enter 2 teams the there is a $50 per team discount.

Just because you field only 6 players taht is all the trophies and awards you can get.
