Now that the cat is out of the bag, We are going to try and make these two tournaments a must attend event.

With Ricky Moorehead running Buntball #1 and me running BuntBall #2. we can cover all of Ohio.

The BSD Bowl Championship will held October 17 2009

All teams that play in BuntBall 1 and 2 are invited to attend BSD Bowl.

We are hoping to run BuntBall thru the off season, so maybe some other Organizations want to climb on board and run some BuntBall qualifying tournaments thru the winter. And qualify teams for the BSD Bowl in OCT 2010

All BuntBall Tournaments are sanctioned IFA

Wow jdawg88, he said "Tell me what you think", you did and got slapped down for it. Me thinks Mr Urbana should apologize, you did ask for opinions.

My opinion is that the short game should have some element of surprise. This will have none, but good luck.

I was actually thinking the same thing when I saw the format. I guess we will see how it is recieved but I don't think that it should be awarding any IFA tournament births unless IFA plans to run a bunt nationals. This is not the way the game is meant to be played, more like the way the game is meant to be practiced. Best of luck to Urbanafan.

Well I think that is how you must look at this...practice for both the offensive and defensive short game. The same thing can be said about indoor winter ball with nets, funky rules and weird field dimensions. It is what it is and each team will either choose to play or not. I know we will not because my kids want to hit. My DD does not like to bunt at all, she wants to hit and hit some more. Ironically she is probably one of the best bunters on the team. Good luck though, it will be interesting to see how it all turns out.

BTW, The $29 Wal-Mart Alumitekk will probably be the hot bat for this tourney.

Ricky here on mobil.

Wanted 2 cover a few things about "BUNTBALL"

This game is a concept game.

U may call it softball, practice, not a game or what every u choose 2 call it.

But im calling BUNTBALL.

At this time jon and i are working on the details.

Once were done taking input from everyone.

Will move on with hosting a test event at no cost to the. 6 teams that attend.

So will be looking 4 - 2 teams in these age groups 14u, 12u and 10 under.

Will do this 2 work out any unforseen problems.

I think u see a very fast pace game with lots of action.

And to cap off bunt slap and drag 1 & 2. With the 2009 BSD Bowl Game.

It will be a game that stands on its owes or a flop.

God bless
Ricky

earlier in this thread i stated that BuntBall "MIGHT" be a IFA qualifier.

After a discussion with the Ohio IFA director (RICKY). We came to the conclusion that BuntBall tournaments will "NOT" be IFA softball NIT qualifiers.

IFA will however be the sanctioning body for BuntBall (tm).
With the BSD Bowl being the National Tournament.

I have a question on the rule; NO FORCE OUT AT THE PLATE
Quoting" No force out at home if bases are loaded. Outs must be made at bases or caught flys."

The force at 3rd is ok, but at home it must be a tag on the runner? If a tag on the runner going to the plate is ok its still a force out if bases are full due to blocking path to score.
Are you saying by this rule? A runner on 3rd has free passage to score when bases are full? I am just thinking from a tactical way what or how I would play the odds in defense. This is a defensive game too. The term, FREE PASSAGE from 3rd would indeed prevent impact at home plate but does take away from the skill in laying down a good bunt to score. I just want to clarify how you would make the call in a game.

Example; Bases are full less than two outs......runner from 3rd becomes an automatic score everytime if no play at the plate can be produced. Trade A Run for a out at a base? This would allow scoring and it would be all about your lead off bunters speed to start off the innings. From a coaches point this would eliminate the slower runners for a serious contender team.

The person on third does get a free pass at home IF the bases are loaded and there is a base hit.

We just want the plays made at 1, 2 and 3. Pass balls, wild pitches and stealing of home is in effect.

Example
Bases loaded, there are 2 outs. The 3rd out must be made at 1, 2 or 3 . If the out is made, run does not score. If out is not not made the the run counts.

Example
Bases loaded, 1 out and there is a pass ball runner from 3rd tries to score. she can be tagged out trying to steal home.

Example
runner on 1st and 3rd. a bunt is laid down. runner from 3rd tries to score. She can be tagged out.

I hope this explains what I am talking about.

If this game is a concept why should you have to sanction IFA????.Why not let teams come play without having to pay a sanction fee.

Killing 2 birds with one stone. IFA offered to be the sanctioning body for BuntBall events, and it also helps teams get sanctioned IFA for IFA Softball events.

Why pay, you can split your own team up into two teams and do this at the end of practice for free. Bring hot dogs and sodas if you want the feel of a tournament. Maybe play some music inbetween batters. Just a thought.

lol....(I think it is a great Opportunity for the players to travel and get the tournament atmosphere and experience the build up.) I think team practices are great too but there is nothing like coaching the players when they go to a event and and see them excited to be there. Our jobs to the kids is to supply them with the Opportunity to play and the more they play the better they get. That is why we go out there, it is the opportunity to do it when there was none before. I am all for the players no matter who they are to have the opportunity to go and have the experience of competition.........it is better for them than texting on a cell phone and eating potatochips all weekend.

The idea of hotdogs and music are good too....

All of that can be experienced in practice. You will find, the "art" of bunting becomes less consequencial as they move up in age. While the "art" of hitting never does.

Not sure how the players will get the "full" experience, when everyone knows that they are bunting. One of the main effects of a bunt, is its surprise effect. As a coach, I know my parents would look at me and wonder if I fell of the deep end if I said we were going to a "bunting" tournament. Matter of fact, I know they would say. "Dont we do that in practice for free."

Good luck with your business venture.

Is there always someone who has to try to argue with what people are doing?
They are getting a good response so why does someone
(who has no intention of participating) care how you are spending your money?
Urbana Fan has several young teams and puts on quite a few events and does good things for them. Not every player is a star home runner hitter and the girls will enjoy it and this is about the girls!!
