I called pitches in High School Baseball a few years. Location was more important the what pitch to throw. We tried to get the hitter to HIT our pitch. Now that I have a DD playing fastpitch, I never see coaches calling pitches that way. Every pitch trying to get the batter to MISS. I've seen my DD's high school coach chew on his DD for letting a batter hit a dink ground ball. I think catchers, pitchers and coaches should work together. When I called pitches as a coach, if he hit the spot and got hit hard it was my fault. If he missed his spot and got hit hard it was his fault.
