I have resigned as a coach for Buckeye Heat 95 and I will not be participating anymore on this forum.

If you wish to contact the team regarding friendlies or other softball matters, you should do that through Ted: masonte on this forum and masonte@kenyon.edu for email, which is probably the better way of getting to him.

I will definitely miss being a part of the game but the rewards of coaching have now been outweighed for me by the demands and the drama of being a volunteer coach.

Best of luck to all of you and to the DDs.

Just because you left coaching doesn't mean you have to leave the rest of us.

It is the sad truth that this stuff can become a chore.

I was just telling my wife that if she put the energy she used on all the girls she coaches and the org into our daughters we would have people paying them to play on teams.......LOL.......or they would be burned out.........

It is very tough to do this once you are truly trying to be competitive at the highest level. At the Rec level it is much easier IMO. But at the Travel level things can get ugly fast.

Sad to see a good one go--sometimes the best thing is a clean break and a fresh start. Spartan-I will stack some of the rec drama against the travel drama any day...lol

The "drama" is what drove many good coaches away from this sport. What a shame.

Once the drama withdrawal symptoms are gone, watching games from the camp chair is really quite enjoyable.

Good luck in your retirement.

I wish to be interviewed for the job of President of the "Carol Fan Club".

What insight into the game and experience as a coach and compansion as another human on this rock we call Earth.

But, don't leave us here on the OFC :( (sad eyes and not a frown.LOL)

So, Coach , what are you going to do with yourself now that you have spare time ?

For goodness sake, please do not tell me that you took on a youth rec S O C C E R team and plan to travel throughout Ohio and other Midwest states and submit the girls to the "horrors" ( see Columbus Dispatch article and thread) of organized S O C C E R

Sorry to hear that, Carol ... you always brought a voice of experience and reason to OFC. Hope the occasional drama here didn't contribute to your decision. Best wishes to you.

Especially when you have 2 dds playing on different teams it is sure alot easier to watch them play. Lost a whole year with one dd when coaching the other.
It would be a great game except for some parents. Sad to see anyone leave.

For what it is worth, I think it is safe to say that most volunteer (or greatly underpaid) coaches are forced to endure way more drama/abuse/whatever you want to say, than they should. Parents these days in general don't appreciate how much genuine love for the game and for the kids goes into coaching. The amount of dedication and energy required to teach their little darlings the game is far beyond what anyone who has never coached can possibly comprehend. I know very few of the people who regularly post on this site, but I think I can safely say that for the most part, these are all good people who love the game of softball and who participate (as a coach/umpire/manager/whatever) for reasons that are much more honorable than some parents could ever imagine. I have experienced problems at all levels. There are good and bad parents everywhere. It's just too bad that the bad ones can make someone so disheartened that they would walk away from a sport they have dedicated themselves to. CGS - you have my sincere best wishes.

I can relate Carol, I have asked myself this same question (is it worth it) over the past weeks and ironically you with your posts, and the wisdom and reason you bring have eased my tension with the email situation however it still exisits. I don't personally know you but I certainly have the utmost respect for you. And remember it's always a womens prerogative to change her mind.

Good luck!

I know about that drama and demands, it puts a toll on things.

However, I anted to say that I know we didn't eye-to-eye on some things. I have always repsected your thoughts and opinions.

It was great to meet you this past summer. Hopefully, you change your mind about leaving the forum, it's good to read your thoughts.

Good luck in your endeavors!

There is always way to much drama. To many people sticking there nose where it does not belong. It's always the coaches that care the most and the coaches trying to help kids out that get the short end of the stick.
If people just minded there own business life would be much better.
Carol you will be missed! Good luck from everyone from the Cincy Doom

Carol,
I am saddened by this. Not only are you a very positive addition to this forum, you are an extremely talented coach. I have had the opportunity to play against you and watch you play others and not only are you on top of your game and know how the game is played, but you care about your girls. You taught them how to play with class and respect for others. That is not often the case with coaches.

When I come her multiple times daily, I look for your posts, your constructive critisism, your personal thoughts and strategies.

I know the volunteer coaching job can be stressful and take up alot of time, so I just want to say..Good Luck Carol and I am glad we got to meet and hope to see you again!

Carol, this is the reason you shouldn't leave the forum as well.

Here's a person that has posted 5 times... 5 times only !!!! ... on the OFC that has read your posts for the insights of this game we call fastpitch.

Some people think they have knowledge of this game and then there is the ones who do.

And those Carol, are the ones you don't want to lose in the OFC forum. The person who believes in the game as more than a game. The knowledgable ones.

Knowledge has to be passed down and hopefully soon some more rec teams come online with us and rec leagues .. people that could use that insight of today's game.

Take that long derserved break ... then come back and join us and give us your insights... Poster of 5 like them so much that they took the time to post.

That says something in my book. ;)

Your intelligence and common sense will be missed.

Here's an idea, become an umpire!
