Changing of the guard? The "elite" ?

Pathetic,
I do not disagree with what you would like to see accomplished. I just think we are looking at it from the wrong side. In order to get that elite team, we need the combination of coaching and facilities to attract those athletes. I am not bashing coaches here, and I realize they are nearly all (I don't know any paid) volunteers, but what are we (coaches) doing to educate and improve our skills? NFCA coaches clinics, I know there are some going, and putting out the money and time to do so, but I haven't heard it is SRO. I am sure there are other sources, and I am not selecting one as the best, just citing an example. As parents are we willing to pay to have our DD's coach attend? Great coaches don't just wake up one day, they work and learn from those that have gone before. Great coaching will attract talent, it may take time, but it will happen. I guess that is my point, athletically, there is bound to be as much talent in Ohio as there is in Indiana etc. Does our softball community have what it takes to attract the best athletes to our sport?

I see this post I think im seeing things.Whats changing? The lasers continue to be the elite of the state bar none. The laser purple will dominate the compuware tourney in 06 like they did in 04 along with the shockwaves, the lasers were defeated 2-0 by the shockwaves in a great game then the waves just blew the spit apart I believe 13-1 or something.I will guarentee you that was just a matchup deal the spit got further than us when we meet this year it will be turn out the lights the party is over for the spit.Pathetic I hope you and your ice buds got an education from this thread. :p :p

lasersb,

I am sorry to differ in opinion on your post. First of all 2004 was 2 years ago. What happened in the year you skipped?

::)

What has changed? Well, the "bar none" statement is what has changed. Bar none, would have meant that the Laser Red and Green would have walked away with all of the hardware last weekend in Pickerington, which they didn't..

The "bar none" does not ring true...

I think we are pretty much on the same side here. You definetly need talented ball players, but first and foremost I believe you need quality educated coaches, which most of the organizations mentioned here have. The biggest problem with coaching I have encountered is at the younger age groups. If any group needs educated this would be it, primarily at the rec level. Lets face it everybody has to start somewhere, you don't just decide one day to play softball and automatically know how to field, catch, hit. etc.

Buck-I and Ofer we must have come up against the same buzz saw. Colors sound about right and the results are eerily similiar. At first you say they just got lucky, next time you figure you had a bad day, third time you start doubting your abilities, and fourth time you just say damn these girls are good. About the only good to come out of that funfest was the education we received.

Lazersb yes I have gotten an education from this post. Quite a few like minded individuals from many organizations across Ohio trying to advance this sport and one baffoon that would be pleased to drag the whole thing into the mud. Why don't you slink back to the soccer fields that you came from.

Sorry about that Bear. Its hard to just let this elitist attitude from this one poster go sometimes. It probably is an insult to soccer to lump this guy in with that sport.

The 6 figures that BearMay is referring to is preceeded by a decimal point. I thought I would let you know before you sent in your resume.

OK guys, tear my application up then! lol. I can make more $money$ being the "TD" of Friendly Tournaments here in Mt Vernon.

Back to the Topic at hand. The so called "Big Named" travel teams will still play deep into Sunday at most tournaments next summer. You can "Take that to the Bank".IMHO! lol

I beg to have my name pulled from the hat. That leaves catcher99dad.

Pathetic, I know TheBear had to sound the warning, but your posts were funny.

SB,

Got our education on the field last summer, twice. I had thought the Lasers were a class group of people, I've now learned that MOST of them are.

Thanks Joe at least somebody gets my humor. The bear was right to defuse things that way. I was worried the whole thing would get locked up once the popcorn smileys showed up.
