I told someone yesterday that ASA has now gone to metal spikes for 16U and 18u tourneys.. Because Im sure I read that somewhere. I do know that ASA voted it down at 14U level, maybe it was the same article. But the person I was talking with, I figured would have been "in the know" and it was news to them. Which caused me to kinda question my own information. So was I right about ASA going metal for 16U and 18U??

Have any others adopted metal cleet allowances for 16U or 18U.or lower???

Thanks

You must have gotten some bad information, or- in the immortal words of Roger Clemens- maybe you "misremembered" what you read. :)

The only 2009 ASA rule change relating to metal cleats is the addition of a note that if a player does not remove them when asked to, she is to be ejected.

I will have to try and find the article on it. I hink it was in last months NFCA fastpitch delivery. Maybe it is for 2010. When I find it I will post it.... now if I can just remember where I put it???

Crush 1,
Maybe you are referring to the new NSA ruling. I believe that NSA now permits metal cleats at the 16U & 18U levels.

On the NSA ruling I also think it is up to the local TD whether to allow them or not at the 16 and 18 levels.

That is kind of a "half-truth"- though a "half-truth" that has almost zero bearing on the participants of this forum.

ASA allows metal cleats for both men's and women's fastpitch or modified adult play (over age 18). Off hand, I can recall only three posters here that play adult fastpitch- and I am one of them!

Metal cleats are banned for all youth play (18 and under).

Are middle school allowed to use metal cleats?
They wouldn't be covered under the ASA regulations, but under the OHSAA. As such, the last time I checked they would follow the same regulations as the high school, i.e. they are permitted subject to local league and school district restrictions.
