Clean those wounds!

Hey gang, sounds trivial, but make sure that you get any sliding wounds cleaned thoroughly, with the brickdust fields, I know of two kids with instances of staph infections caused by not cleaning them out properly! I think that's how it's spelled

You can get a saline rinse solution in a spray or squirt bottle to use at the field. Or clean with a 50% peroxide solution. I would also add keep them covered with a non stick dressing held firmly with a sleeve. An anti-bacterial ointmint is also adviseable.

Indoor domes that are used extensively have a high probability of bacteria simply due to sweat and spit in a small concentrated area. Be cautious of any open cuts that occur in these locations especially. Nothing the dome owners can do just a fact of life. Not many fields used like those are.

We ask our girls to not slide indoors, but they usually forget. I have wondered if there was a way that they could spray the dirt down with a bleach solution--probably get parents mad if the shorts begin to fade.

Crazy8s, it is NOT trivial! My DD opened up her calf with a very nice strawberry at a school game last season, pulled her sock up and continued to play. Decided to go hang at a freinds house after the game, turned into a sleep over and came home the next morning. Said she forgot all about it. It took almost two weeks to get that topical infection out. I hate puss! A decent rinse, topical antibiotic and bandage at the game would have been a great idea.

We took a shoebox size tupperware container to keep in the car when attending games and keep it stocked with bandaids, gauze, tape, sunblock, sunburn spray, antiseptics, ankle wrap, pain reliever, ect. Sometimes a school or travel teams first aid kit may get depleted and not always replentished in a timly manner, so it's just being prepared.
