Could this be the biggest Bush play ever?

Not sure I'd call it Bush league, as I think it is just another way of trying to prolong a run-down between 1st and 2nd. Not sure why in the world they chose to lie down as opposed to baiting a throw, though. Kinda strange. I would think running back and forth would give the runner on 3rd time ot score before the other baserunner gets tagged out. Lying down seems to make it easier, I would think. I've never seen this.

Fury it is not simply laying down it is during the run down that they flop and usually the person running them down will trip over them or miss them all together and sometimes they get up quickly like we did in football drills...WSU has done this before as the defense can sometimes get caught up in the moment.

"Most" of Heartbreaker's parents are embarrassed when this play happens. This bush league play reflects on the whole team but is not representative of it. Just like the Bud Light or Tequila cheers. Shows coaches maturity, not players. This is 18u.

If they are falling straight down in high school or college, they are subject to being run over by metal cleats. Not sure a run is worth that pain!

So that's where the saying "Feel the Pain" came from.;&

FASTPITCH! Anything else, And you're playing to SLOW!

I saw this play for the first time this weekend and our girls fell for it. Catcher threw to second baseman and runner on third scored.

I was there and if it works the coach is a genius, but the girls love it. Let them have fun. Not Bush

Sorry, doesn't seem very bush league to me. Needed to allow time for the run to get in. I don't quite understand the laying down part. Maybe the instructions for the baserunner to delay the tag as long as possible were too complicated for the girl and they settled on go half way and lay down.

Let's face it, it's just a case of bad acting. If it looked like she really tripped no one would've noticed.

This is a 18u division and I could not see a college coach looking at this team and saying "Hey that was a good idea. " I see it as I guess some teams will do anything for a win.

Yikes... at 18U this should not happen... and by "this", I mean allowing a run to score in tight game on a "1st & 3rd steal scenario". (regardless of how bad an actor the girl on first is...) ;)

Shortstop just made the wrong decision.

yes, just saw this at 12u game at Wooster over the weekend do this. The runner from third did score as the catcher throw to back to pitch and she started to go to the fallen running as her coaches were yelling at her to leave her lay....... long story short it really makes the younger gals confussed thats the whole idea of it....is it bush???? not sure!!!

I like this one!!!! We may have to try it!!! As far as the original post, on defense we would use this set up to get the out at home, let them think we are trying to get the runner from first out but shoot it home ASAP.

We use a play similar to this. Intentional dropped third strike with runner on 3rd. 1st base plays in......double play ball.

Do you think it would it have been bush if she had just stopped between 1st and 2nd and accepted the tag-out standing up while the run scored, or are you saying the lying down part is bush. Did she fake an injury or just lay down and give herself up.

Not much different than trying to get caught in a rundown between 2nd & 1st while the runner from 3rd scores, in my opinion. I'd say not bush.

Had a 16U team try it against us at Compuwae but we did not bite. They tried it two pitches in a row. Throw it back to pitcher and get them out on look back rule.

Oh Yeah that is Bush! Win at any cost. That is not respect for the game.
Eagleone, that is a great solution. I like that.

I've seen this numerous times at 18U Gold tournaments. Including a few with most top 25 D1 coaches attending. They have no issues with it, its just a diversion play, and if the other team bites, it scores a run.

Saw it last weekend against the Corona Angels (Marty). Even his team fell for it, and boy was he mad!

Not Bush!

The Wave a few years back pull this on us. They had a girl on 3rd with one out. The batter gounds out making the second out. The 3rd base coach tells his girls the inning is over its the third out, tells his team to hustle out and play defense. Our kids not paying attention run in from the field thinking the inning is over. One problem the runner at third stayed on the base, after our kids ran into the dugout, she runs home. They win the game by one run.

Now THIS play is bush.

Bush is when this happens.....only when the base coaches (other team) are telling your corner players that there are 2 outs. I don't mind if the kids pull something off that they run routinely, but when the base coaches are talking to my players while the ball is in play, that's bush. :p

Alright. I have to take exception to this. I know it wasn't my team AND I never remember hearing about this play nor have I ever seen it being used by one of our coaches. I don't doubt it didn't happen I just doubt the intent. I've lost track of outs on occasion especially in a long inning. I can see a coach during this exact thing and a heads up ball player running home and it all be completely by accident. I have NEVER heard or seen any of our kids being coached for this, of course I'm not with every team 100% of the tome either.

Why not stay on your feet and see if they throw the ball away. We have had a similar thing happen but while the run was scoring and our other runner was in a run down they had a fielding error on the throw and the girl ended up being safe at second. Stay up.

Getting in a rundown is part of the game. Laying on the ground is not...bush!
