Cut the cord...

I've noticed an increase in helicopter parents. Parents hovering around the dug out constantly directing their kid. Then they wonder why their kid is tentative or nervous when playing.

Please give your DD a little room, let the coaches coach let her be a part of HER team.

Thanks OFC for letting me vent :)

I was at Strongsville as well and saw it at 12u way more than was expected. I couldn't believe how many helicopters there were for even the "good" teams. It's expected with newer younger teams not so much with established so called elite teams.

Gets better as they get older. Eventually the parents "hover" in the OF, maybe by choice, maybe by request. ;&:lmao:

The ones who've been around know how it ends for kids with helicopter parents.

-New travel team year in year out
-Kid gets bad rap, teams shy away from her due to the constant sound of propellers in the back ground.
-Parents will show everybody they are wrong about their DD and take her to as many specialty coaches as possible.
-Parents have meeting with high school coach their frosh or soph year to discuss what the coach is teaching because it's a little different from the specialty coaches approach.
-Player either quits or is cut junior or senior year 'copters blame everybody but themselves
Or
-Player has a good high school career, 'copters are unhappy about kids usage, post season awards, batting avg. Posted in the paper or any other perceived slight and their kids career ends and they spent the whole time ticked off about one thing or another they never took the time to enjoy watching their kids play and now its over and there is no "do over"

Now thats funny. My DD's team coaches had first parents meeting and discussed staying away from the dugout to not hover. So far working well. Makes it easier when the parents follow directions. I'm usually out taking pictures anyway!

Even worse when the hovercraft not only gives constant advice to their daughter but now wants to give advice to other players as well. I work with her at home but if I'm not "Coach" then I watch her play and take pictures,, your right there is no do overs.
She is learning to block everyone out including me but her coach and her trainer when she is with them, I just parent now, "Watch and enjoy" different after so many years but enjoyable!

The 10U parents have yet to learn the value of a "RED" cup or and "McD's" ice tea cup can bring on a hot day at the ball field.
Because if they did know the value of the Cups they would be "DONE" hovering around the dugout.

Nothing like a "Mickey D's Sweet Tea" on a hot summer day when DDs team is getting smoked to relax yourself!!

Seeing this play out firsthand here locally with a kid .. shame really, but you nailed it 100%

It is a shame how and what things have become in youth anything, not just sports.

During a college visit this fall, this same exact topic was discussed with my daughter by a college professor. With considering entering the education field and possibly future coach as well, it is certainly a problem to consider as it is a growing challenge to be faced that continues to get worse. Amazing.......really in college too? Parents still don't know when to let go and let the kids learn to grow and become their own person. I'm sure if you asked the child (or young adult), "do you want mommy or daddy to talk to your professor or coach about why your not succeeding or starting?" I would think their answer would (or at least should be) ABSOLUTELY NOT, how embarrassing !!
I was very happy that the professor brought this to her attention. She loves kids and want to help, guide and teach, but as the professor said, those are all absolutely great attributes of being an educator, but with great things also comes not so nice experiences and challenges (as is the case in all jobs). It gave her something to think about, not just the smiling little student who thinks her teacher is the greatest, lol.

One thing......with all the helicopter these days, wet weather conditions should never be a problem.
