Does you daughter have her own car?

I'm on a fact finding mission.

My offspring doesn't fully grasp the meaning of "Recession". In addition to that, she seems to be confusing the terms "Right" and "Privilege". I'm blaming the entire scenario on her vocabulary teacher at school, while she's leaning toward Poor Parenting.

And, is it true that "all my friends have their own car"? Or is that something that varies between school districts?

So please provide input: Does Your Daughter Have Her Own Car?

If so, is it New, Used, Inherited from Grandma, Shared among siblings, John Deere, etc...

If half of my daughters clothes are in my car, does that make it hers?

My first car was a push button 1964 Dodge Dart .... so obviously it was used when I got it in 1974. $500.00 dollars was the selling price and I got him down to $480.00 ( as that was all I had from mowing yards and delivering newspapers ) .

DD got a new car when she went off to college, she was 6 hrs away and i didnt want her driving a clunker that far. She didnt have a car until then. She has never had a job and considers me her personal ATM. I pity the guy who ends up with her.

My first car was a '72 cuda i bought off a lot. It has been thru quite a few changes (was in CARCRAFT at one point) and sits in my garage as we speak.

Mine dd is only 15, but heck no she isn't getting her own car!! As soon as she has enough money to buy one she can have her own. We will pay for insurance and she gets to pay for the car and the gas. I'm sure it would be much more convenient for me if she had her own but too bad, no one ever bought me a car, I had to ride the bus!! Plus...no grades, no car!!

Our last one home 17 yr old doesn't even want to drive!! We have to push her to do it to at least get her license. She says nope too many idiots on the road and almost everytime we go out she sees another one do something stupid...

The other three did not have their own until they could make the payments on our insurance though.

My first car was a 67 Chrysler 300 "440" for 100 bucks....It was a boat but moved.....

One of the deciding factors on her getting a car was set-up back when she was 11-12......Responsibility. We told her that if she was responsible and made good decisions then when the time came, we would work on getting her own car, if we could afford it and taking into account what the current transportation requirements are.

She did really well (knock on wood) with her decisions and responsibilities and with mom and dad's job requirements and her transportation requirements, we got her a car when she got her driver's license. There were still plenty of controls that she initially, and some still today, had to negotiate but she has done really well.

It was not a new car but one in good enough shape to get her at least 4-5 years worth of use out of (hopefully till she gets through college).

She definately knew that a car is not a right, but an earned priviledge that can be yanked when control measures are not followed. She pays for her own gas (which means she has to have an income) and she contributes to the insurance bill.

My daughters are not old enough to have a car yet, but it will be a hand me down when they are. Probably in the truck variety. We live in the country plus they can only get one other person in the cab. If they are playing sports we will help with gas and insurance as long as grades are up. If they are not doing anything after school they will have to get a job.

I like hearing about everybody's first cars. Mine was a Reliant from Grandma.

I guess I shouldn't admit this, but I sprung for a new car. Her grades were (still are) excellent and she got a job during off season. She takes her younger sister to s**cer practice and has been driving for nearly two years with no drama or incidents. This fall when she leaves for college, the car will stay home for her younger sister.
My first car? Mazda RX2.

DD will be turning 16 in a year and we worked out an agreement in which we will buy a new truck for me and let her have my 13 year old K1500. We are going to give it a good mechanical tune up put a 6 inch lift kit and larger tires on it to get her above the other crazies on the road. We are putting on a roll bar and grill gaurd on it as well. In addition we are taking the muffler off and bring dual pipes off the engine until she can't sneak down any country roads late at night. Once she goes off the college the boy will inherit the truck for his next two years.

I made a deal with my kids...

If you get a full ride to a college I will get you any car you want.. of course when my daughter looked like she was on her way to earning my promise I bought her a used VW bug when she wa 16 she didn't realize at the time but she was thrilled as was I when I didn't have to spring for a brand new car.

My 2nd daughter looks like she is also on the way to earning this so I bought her a used acura srx at the age of 16.
They do realize these cars are for going back and forth from school and not to drive their friends around (only her younger siblings).

Since both myself and wife work late. oldest dd got the delivery vehicle from work and now her middle name is taxi. It is so she can take herself and her sister to dr and dentist appointments etc. Ii is truly a savings for me so I don't have to take time off from work to get them there. They can make early and late practices.

My first car was a 70 ford torino. Things I did to and in that car.

Being from Clinton County and growing up there.. this is too funny. Always loved those back roads. Many gatherings back some farmer's lane in the back fields of corn where the stalks were high enough to not be seen.

So we thought.

Years later, the farmer said him and his wife use to go back the lane and park and watch us kids having fun.. drinking soda pop, listening to music, etc... Whole different enviroment versus today.

Always wondered who brought the trash cans back there for our cans and burger bags !!!
LOL. Never really thought about it back then.

While I know that having her own car would be "sweet", and that it would save Mrs. Louuuuu and me a lot of time transporting Little Louuuuuise around town, this has been a tough year for us to consider forking out extra dough for a third set of wheels.

(First car - '78 Chrysler Lebaron. Leather seats, but only an AM radio!)

I grew up in Clinton County most kids were not drinking Soda pops. Listening to music ok i buy that. As for a car if the family can afford to do it it actually makes life a little easier. But the kid has to have skin in the deal regardless of financial situation.

Buying the car might be the cheap part, it's the insurance bill every 6 months that hurts!

I'm talking 1974-76 era.... the beer drinking clan was elsewhere. Usually down along the creek bank of Todds Fork at Number #8 train trussle on the back side of Clarksville.... where you could jump off the train bridge into the creek below. Now, there has indeed been some parties there in the late 60's - early 70's. Bunch of kids from every town in the surrounding area use to come swim there.

I thought you were older than that Quaker after seeing the picture of you in a model A at your 5th grade graduation. But then again you and the girl next to you were the only two with a full mustach

Just kidding

My DD has a 1999 Plymouth Van that she drives. It's huge, but she loves it and she is still 16. Excellent student and very responsible, which is the reason she gets to drive. The van was the extra car in the garage, so she got it.
