Jaelyn Sanders is quoted in this most recent article. She was the starting center fielder during the 2021 season. What really stood out for me was seeing her crying in her mothers arms right after they won the OVC championship. These were not tears of joy, this poor kid was utterly traumatized. She transferred out after one year just like my daughter who walked away from a full ride there. From what I understand Jaelyn has now quit softball altogether, which is a shame - she's a very talented athlete and I think was the fastest player on the team.

Man, such utter BS that we continue to hear these stories about all levels of play. All I can say is you better appreciate good coaches that are doing it for the right reasons and the right way. Several of my former players also share similar bad experiences, though not whats in this thread, this is a whole other level. I take all these stories to heart and keep them in mind when I coach and hopefully lead my HS teams to a positive experience. There will always be those that hate you and will bash you, but if your consistent in your approach the "picture" will become clear eventually good or bad. Good luck to all the players and families dealing with this, we are thinking about you and hope you never lose that love of the game no matter what.

I don’t get it, why do AD’s continue to let this happen? I don’t buy for one second the AD had no idea this was going on.

Lex 18 News (NBC affiliate in Lexington) now running with this story. https://www.lex18.com/news/sports-psychologist-weighs-in-was-eku-softball-coach-abusive

Based on a conversation I just had, I don't think they are done reporting on this....stay tuned y'all!

Great! We all need to stand up for our girls and keep this bad behavior in the light when its found at "every" level. Too many families just move on or are afraid to stand up or point it out. How do families know what they are getting into if noone calls it out?

The knuckleheads on the paper's Facebook page focusing on the lack of food, but, based on all the accounts, that definitely is not the worst of the behavior from these coaches. Hopefully those who remain get the change they deserve.

What's interesting is that some of the players still on the roster have privately thanked Kaitlyn for coming forward. I do see that Jane has some defenders from years past, and I am sure there are some players who had a good experience if they were one of her favorites. But when they had that intervention in Knoxville, not one single player abstained. I wish that the player who let that intervention would come forward. I would think her voice would carly a lot of weight.

The latest from the Richmond Register. Not a whole lot of new info but they are keeping the story alive while EKU decides if they will do the right thing:

https://www.richmondregister.com/ne...cle_3bc64c04-078f-11ed-849f-a7d146629169.html

Lex 18 news has conducted several zoom interviews in the meantime. They are also waiting to see if EKU does the right thing before releasing the next story. If Jane had any class at all at this point she would have announced her retirement. Methuselah knows she's old enough...but that class thing appears to be lacking

Maybe her defenders were the Coach's favorites.

WOW, a thorough investigative review in 2 weeks. Also telling the Players to use proper channels. I guess EKU wants to keep it all in house, to save their reputation.

I agree this seems like the process went way too quickly. It does make you think the outcome was predetermined. Certainly feel sorry for the players who have been put through the emotional wringer there.

According to my wife on the Richmond Register's fakebook page, 43 comments about the announcement so far. 42 of which condemning EKU's sham investigation of itself, and one applauding it. I encourage you to check them out some pretty insightful comments for sure.

Then this one from the Register: "Hearing from multiple sources, including a parent, that current players were told of the decision to retain coach Jane Worthington this afternoon in a Zoom with AD Matt Roan, which lasted less than two minutes. Many were crying... Another meeting with Roan tonight.."

An utter travesty. Only thing left to combat this pattern of abuse is for people to talk with their feet and wallets. Donors and alumni already talking about halting support for EKU athletics. Apparently a similar thing occurred with the Volleyball coach recently.

You can add my daughter to that list. Her junior year, she finally had the courage to ask her coach if she could start player other position outside of pitching which included hitting. She said yes, but went back on her word. That rove the final nail in the coffin. What's making things worse is the new culture being brought on. I've even made the decision not to return to coaching and at the school level.

I hear ya! I know Army recruiters used to have that reputation but they got nothing on college softball coaches. I can name several who have no problem flat out lying to your face.
