The main thing I enjoy about softball is watching my dd play it. Watching her determined look. watching her pull some play off, and wonder, where the h... did she pick that up? watching her and her teammates, and the girls on the other team play a game because they love it.

And, no I don't get paid. But I enjoy being one of the coaches who gives up personal time so girls get a chance to get on a diamond and play, catch, throw, run, slide, even sit in the dugout and spit sunflower seeds with their buddies.

You got that right. There are many times, when I'm sitting in the stands, or in a lawn chair at the field, when the days are just perfet, you can hear the tree leaves fluttering in the breeze, and the sounds of the game with the girls chattering, I just say, "Thank you, Lord. This is perfect."

Sure you get paid! With the enjoyment of watching those girls that you have helped succeed in one form or another, and nothing monetary can ever replace that. What I receive in payment for H.S. games just covers the gas to get there and food to eat after the game.

I love the sunny warm days, the crack of the bat (sweeter from someone who is struggling at the plate), watching a well executed play. I love it when there is a scoring conflict and MY book has enough info in it to determine the problem (and I am usually right!).

But what I love most of all is getting to know 11 teenage girls, laughing with them in the dug out (mostly they just laugh AT met, but that's okay!) :lmao:, how they ask me questions, and crack jokes, and how well they are all getting along, the skinned knees and scars! What is there not to love!! ;&

Great stuff Sad. There are times when I feel pity for the parents who don't think they have the time to get involved like that. There is so much they're missing. When I coached my oldest dd's teams, I wished I could have adopted them all.

Where do you start????

~ I love the passion in their eyes
~ I love the way they learn from not only the mistakes they make, but the other team as well
~ I love our inside jokes!!!
~ I love when I call a play (I am the asst) and it works
~ I love to hear the girls talk about the game on the bench. Listening to them communicate intelligently about what is going on affirms that as a coach I am teaching them the game beyond hit, run, throw
~ Their "special" handshakes
~ Having past players excited to see you at tournaments, and watching each others games
~ "Who's the dirtiest?" contests
~ One of my favorites...watching 9 players move in unison when a batter squares to bunt. This is poetry in motion to me!!!

I'll stop right there. Could go on and on and on......I love this game!!!

I have with every moment enjoyed watching my dd grow from the 80lb little girl, who four year ago would shake at the plate from fear develope into the center fielder with a good stick, who helps lead her team every weekend.

I enjoy the friendships we have made in our organization and others over the past four years. There's no better people in my opinion than Softball Families.

Sad,

Thanks for cleaning up my dd's knee last weekend! The words of incouragement were priceless. We'll toughen her up one tournament at a time. LOL:)

There's another thing that really great about the kids, watching them grow as people. My oldest dd and I took over a rec team this spring that was pretty much fractured due to injuries and other things that totally destroyed the attitude. We've been working on rebuilding team spirit in practicies and teamwork. This past weekend, once of the girls who came back, despite last year, and just because she's a high-spirited kid, was one of the distractions last year. Well, she started out the same as last year, but is buying into what we're selling now, and last weekend she was really taking steps forward as a leader. It is really heartening to see the change. watching the girls change, and change for the better is such a rush.

I love watching my 10 year old dd play in her second year and I get to see how much confidence she has this year. I also get to see my 12 year old dd play organized ball for the first time and see how much she also has grown since fall ball. Being with both of my dd's teams is so much fun and the parents are also great. My 2 year old likes to go too.
