Hitting and Hitters Discussion Hand Grip Question

I'm sure girls have been doing this forever, but I'm just really noticing it more this year for whatever reason. I see more and more girls with their index finger on the top hand either sticking out or atleast moved up the bat slightly away from the middle finger. Its obviously doing something good because most girls I see doing this hit the ball well.
My question is what does this do??

That is taught by Tim and Britt Duncan in your area. I will let him explain as I am just a driver to get my dd to lessons.

Thanks Joboo1drew. I kind of figured this was a Duncan thing. Which would explain why I'm seeing it more and more.

This grip puts the bat in the callous pads of the hands and not the thumb area. It also allows the bat to be locked into the last knuckle. So at contact the bat handle does not flex back into the palm. It also allows the bat to roll in the hands as it is going to its palm up position.

If you golf at all it is almost the same as the golf grip with the exception that you don't lock the pinkie and index finger together of both hands. This grip has been taught for years in softball at least as long as I have coached.

Look up the bat jack . Bustos and Howard used them in camps. We taught that grip for years in all our camps. If you want to see why come to contact with the ball with a bat with different grips. Then have someone push the bat backwards. They will tell you what grip is the best. As Howard /Hitter would say feel it let them feel it. DD college team had Bat Jacks for every kid when they wold hit at practice. I still have around 6 I used for the local high school team I worked with. The Bustos one is lime green.

Thanks for the explanation Tim. I hope Brit is recovering well.

Crystl taught this grip to my DD. She tried it for a while, but was just never comfortable with it. The way Crystl explained it to her was by the index finger being positioned behind he bat, it limited the loss of energy caused by the recoil of the bat. It makes perfect sense, but not everyone is comfortable with it.
