My soon to be nine-year-old who weighs 50 pounds at best currently uses a Easton Mako 26 inch -11, maybe I paid $60 new. Part of the issue is her swing at times but she is getting no power whatsoever even when her swing is sound. Additionally every time she makes contact she shakes her hands as if she is experiencing a lot of pain. I'm presuming she should probably jump up to a 28 inch bat, this one was purchased over a year ago.
I am pretty much resigned to the fact that she will need a new bat every single season as she grows.
I am certainly happy to purchase something used, can anyone give me advice as to a brand that their DD has had success with as well as specifications? I would like not to have to break the bank on a bat that she won't be using at this time next year. I am happy to use eBay as I use eBay all the time, but I am open to other resources.

Thanks in advance,

Bat Dad

A dad......with the name "Bat Dad"......needs advice about......bats????? ;)

I would look at something like a used Easton Synge or Miken Halo if you believe you must buy a different bat.

That's true, I never thought about my moniker - I'm sure I was just thinking about a good pun at the time - The price of being clever cost me credibility lol.

Did you not ask her if she was in pain? Sounds like good mechanics is the cure not a new bat. It probably stings if she isn't gripping the bat properly upon contact. She is 9 don't outthink yourself. She may not have the core built for power yet also.

I'm afraid "gripping the bat properly upon contact" is a bit above my knowledge level. Also I should point out that she experiences pain (vibration?) whether she has batting gloves on or not. Does this pic help?

Vibration is usually not how the hands are placed but how tight the bat is gripped. But also where the ball is hitting the bat. If she is not making contact on the "sweet" spot area of the bat it would vibrate. My youngest which is also 9 has the same issue sometimes. As far as bats go I would go with a cheaper composite bat. The Easton Synge is a good start and cheap. Also the bat is balanced. 26inch bat does seem kind of small. My daughter has moved up to a 28 inch bat this year and she is on the smaller side. Louisville Slugger 2012 TPS FP12C2 is her current bat. I got it on Amazon.. Ebay is a good place to look. There is a NEW Louisville Slugger TPS Catalyst Youth: FP12CY -11.5 Fastpitch - 27" 15.5 oz for $10 that ends today. My daughter has this bat too as a 26 inch.
