At what temprature should TDs and coaches alter thier start times ?
Playing in the cold seems to effect all involved , players , parents and even umpires.
What is the coldest temp. that you have had at game time?

Not just temp. alone effects when we should play. I have been in games at 44-47 degrees with a light rain and some wind that were way worse than a game at 34-36 degrees and sunny!! Lets face it, softball ****s in the cold and wet, but when you live in the north, you just gotta do it.....

Under 50 degree's with no wind is to cold.

Under 55 degree's with wind is also to cold.

Our "Fall Frenzy" tournament a few years ago was freezing. I am thinking it was around the 30-35 deg. mark when the first games started.

Maybe someone who played in that tournament remembers the temp. ;&

Lora,
The avatar is in poor taste. Also, it's too cold to play now. 45 degrees is a good cut off point.

I pesomally like the taste of fresh cat , when prepaired properly .
Makes a nice walking taco on a cold day of softball !

Temperatures below 60 degrees also affect composite bats as well. Nobody really wants to shatter that new $300 composite......unless, of course, they're swinging it at that cat in the avatar! :p

mark that avatar and look up the kid in 15 or 20 years,

No need to wait.
The picture is from 1986
The kid is our oldest daughter Catie at age 5
She has her degree and is now employed by a well known traveling circus.
She has been attacked by several big cats over the years and remains a vigorous gun rights activist.
The cat is named mittens , a very rare cat with six toes on each paw
Mittens lived a very long and happy life We miss him very much.
The gun remains a very important family member to this day.
It was used to scare away Catie's very first boyfriend who wanted her to give up college. And my husband had used it earlier to shoot a coyote that was about to eat mittens.
Funny how life can throw you a curve when you're waiting on a fast ball.

Sorry, I'm old and can't see the keys very well, but I can still fix a mean walking taco. I will start having my DD (prooread) my posts for me, LOL.
Thanks

I have played in some very cold weather! Played in Alabama in a blizzard. The snow was coming down so hard, the catcher's signs couldn't by the pitcher or infielders. When the game ended, our coach got on her phone to check the temperature and it was currently 22 degrees outside. With the wind, it was in the teens. Since we were wearing metal cleats, the bottom of our shoes were a sheet of ice. I think we can all agree the wind makes things way worse! A lot of conferences can't agree on a temperature that is too cold to play in. I know the number really going around is 40 degrees, but it's not likely that a rule is going to be passed any time soon.

The only thing I got out of this thread is that Scott Herman is somewhat of a wussy.
